Critics Consensus

Jurassic World can't match the original for sheer inventiveness and impact, but it works in its own right as an entertaining -- and visually dazzling -- popcorn thriller.

Aramide Tinubu Shadow and Act Jurassic World is a visually striking thrill, packed with enough adventure to leave even the most cynical 21st century viewer in awe. Though the storyline itself brings little originality, its cheesiness is oddly endearing. Apr 12, 2017 Full Review Max Weiss Baltimore Magazine The whole thing is an elaborate fantasy, so it seems a bit churlish to say, "that's not believable!" But even a film like this needs some internal logic. Rated: 2/4 Jun 10, 2016 Full Review Alex Abad-Santos Vox Jurassic World is the reason summer movies exist. Rated: 4/5 Oct 20, 2015 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Just as the dictionary definition of "spectacle" states, the blockbuster is unusual, notable, and entertaining in an eye-catching, dramatic, and very public way. It is big, loud, and dumb, but, hot damn, it sure is fun. Rated: 4/5 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... a lot of fun, part mindless two-hour theme park ride, part self-aware sequel where supposedly smart people make a cascade of bad decisions. Aug 20, 2023 Full Review Benjamín Harguindey EscribiendoCine Jurassic World lacks heart because everything happens on the same level of fast-paced, forgettable entertainment. Big Red I really enjoyed the ride! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/21/23 Full Review Jden A This movie should be higher but us being able to basically always see the dinosaurs in my opinion is a little dumb the first movie you didn't see them a lot until the climax which made it scary I get that its a theme park and everything but the dangerous ones too like the raptors and you see more of the rex than you would in any movie about dinosaurs. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/18/24 Full Review Siempre 1 The CGI and animatronics are impressive, bringing dinosaurs like the Indominus Rex and the Velociraptors to life and the film delivers thrilling sequences, especially the climactic battle involving multiple dinosaurs. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/16/24 Full Review Audience Member Jurassic World is a great successor to Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park, taking the story in a new original story. The music, visual effects and story is very good, though the plot of hybrid dinosaurs ars interesting, the plot of weaponising dinosaurs for military use should is kind of dumb and should be left out. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/03/24 Full Review Jay W "Jurassic World" is one of those legacy sequel/ reboot. In this case, structure wise it is pretty much a reboot of the first movie, ignoring the continuity of the lesser sequels. There does exist some winks and nods to the other movies, but this is meant to be a new starting point for the series. Both this one and the original take place in a dinosaur theme park where a dinosaur breaks loose and must be stopped. The difference in this one, aside from general quality and novelty, is now the park has been opened to the public. Since this is not a reboot, but a canonical sequel, this begs the question: how stupid would people have to be to make the same mistake again? The movie is in a hurry to get to its dino break out and eat people part of the story. To get to this point as quick as possible, the characters make a series of idiotic decisions in order to create a deadly dino and have it out in the park. First the company needs to make a super smart, camouflaging, blood thirsty monster. Second, they need to ignore the signal tacking and send people into the cage to investigate where the dino went. Third, the guards need to open up the big dino door and let them out and about. Finally, once the dino is out, keep the park open to give the dinos as much to eat as possible. The effects of this movie do not hold up as well as the 1993 original. And more importantly, the characters in this film are not remotely as memorable or likable as those in the original. The scares aren't as good, the awe and wonder, nothing is as good as the first. But they are arguably better than the sequels. The villain's plan to weaponize the raptors is hilarious. The way he leaves the movie gave me the biggest laugh of the movie. There are a handful of moments loaded with simple dumb pleasure. Raptors running with motorcycles, dinosaurs teaming up to attack other dinosaurs, and dinosaurs breaking loose and attacking a park full of people. The movie has its moments, just don't go into it expecting high caliber entertainment. The movie isn't saying anything new, it's a pure popcorn flick. Don't expect the next Jurassic Park, but it can still be an entertaining theme park ride. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/01/24 Full Review Enzo D I highly recommend it! Incredible, with a great suspense. The cinematography in the film is amazing and the story is amazing. Recommend. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/29/24 Full Review Read all reviews
