Ben Turner The Pink Lens If you want pure romantic escapism, this does exactly what it says on the tin. Rated: 4/5 Sep 1, 2021 Full Review Amanda Jane Stern Film Inquiry This is a fun, sexy, rom-com. It loses a little steam in the second half when it veers away from its more comedic elements, but it's still a worthwhile watch. Mar 23, 2021 Full Review Terry Mesnard Gayly Dreadful So yes, Just Friends is a fun, delightful romantic comedy. It's sweet and the actors are winsome. Is it perfect? No. Rated: 3/5 Jul 16, 2019 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall A cheeky sense of humour gives this crowd-pleasing Dutch comedy an extra kick. Peter K This is a beautifully sweet, sensitive piece of art. The screenplay is amazing as is the direction. The acting by the entire cast is superb. Loved the scenes of Holland! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/24/23 Full Review Thomas R "Just Friends" has no heart or soul. It is completely devoid of any emotional depth or connection. This film resembles a series of MTV-styled, music video images with cardboard characters paraded around as props as if their presence actually means anything. Joris (Josha Stradowski) spontaneously taking off his shirt to reveal his perfect, 6-pack abs and upper torso is a poor substitute for engaging character development and a compelling plot. His drunk, xenophobic, annoying-as-hell mother Simone (Tanja Jess) is tossed about for interspersed comedic relief, which falls flat. Unbeknownst to her, Yad (Majd Mardo) – the object of Joris' affection – plays the Muslim "help" for the grandmother and who actually comes from an upper-class family himself. I could only tolerate 45 minutes of this continual barrage of narcissism, self-aggrandizement, and self-importance that is typical of today's young gay men and their vapid, superficial culture and lifestyle. If you want to watch a movie that will elicit empathy and exhilaration with the two main lead characters then you should rent "God's Own Country," a far more realistic, superior, and enthralling gay love story. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/17/23 Full Review elena v The chemistry between the leads was great, but the overall movie was a bit of a mess. I felt like it couldn't decide on a theme and in the end came out way too cutesy, like a Hallmark movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Thoroughly enjoyed. Wonderful story, well acted and only drawback was, if one at all, that Josha Stradowski might've been too beautiful. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member I really enjoyed this movie. The two main leads were a convincing couple. The mom, grandmother and sister were excellent as were all the characters. The Dutch did nor deter me in any way and the English subtitles were fast and good. 90 thoroughly enjoyable minutes. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review dan q Sweet and sexy and realistic Dutch movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
