Guy Lodge Variety [A] nervy, finely acted domestic thriller. Jun 29, 2023 Full Review Nadia Dalimonte Next Best Picture The emotional resonance in “Just the Two of Us” rests on the incredible subtleties of Virginie Efira’s acting and the layered characterization of Blanche, which gives her a strong foundation to work with. Rated: 8/10 Jun 24, 2024 Full Review Miyako Pleines Spectrum Culture Donzelli’s film is enticing because it shows the slow buildup of an abusive relationship from the unobstructed perspective of its female lead. Jun 20, 2024 Full Review Nadine Whitney InSession Film Just the Two of Us is horrifying because it doesn’t stretch credibility or imagination. There is no ultimate revenge and no firm end. An everyday fight for survival which happens across class and cultural milieus. Rated: B+ Jun 15, 2024 Full Review Christopher Llewellyn Reed Film Festival Today Donzelli slowly builds tension, though the power of her drama is … undercut by the lack of mystery about Grégoire’s character … Still, the director nevertheless manages to keep us engaged … thanks in no small part to Efira’s magnificent performance. Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 15, 2024 Full Review Sumner Forbes Film Threat Just the Two of Us won’t win any points for originality, but it works as a well-constructed drama that checks the boxes of what people watching it want — an intense tale of conflict with two hot people. Moody C This movie works better if you don’t know the premise but it’s hard these days since we read reviews on this site and most likely synopsis as well but once you know premise you basically can predict chain of events except for ending which makes it still enjoyable but not as much. It could also be a hard watch for those with similar experiences because it’s so raw and real. I usually avoid subtitled movies but this is worth a watch since it’s chilling and short. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/19/24 Full Review Heather C The film was technically good. Virginie Efira is always great in everything she does but this film was one cliche after another. Just when I thought something surprising might happen, nothing happened. I saw it at Rendez-vous with French Cinema in NYC and everyone around me was looking at their watch or checking the time in their phone which is not a good sign. If I had been on the aisle, I would have walked out. It was a drag of a film that needed a twist or a surprise to make it interesting but sadly that never came.
