John K @UndeadKingUK Oct 22 The film had the right ingredients to be the next big animation hit, but it falls flat on its face for many reasons. I do like the cast as they definitely chose some interesting names like David Walliams, Freddie Highmore, Barry Humphries, Richard O'Brien and Julie Walters because of how popular they are and how much star power they bring to the film. The animation, even at a low budget, does look impressive for 2013. However, the story is weak, only two characters in the film are enjoyable to watch on screen, Rupert Everett's character almost felt like the actor thought he was appearing in a Shrek movie, Antonio Banderas' character is so annoying and unlikeable, and it felt like the whole film was just something to entertain children and bore adults. The plot was absolutely incredible, very captivating. Had me at the edge of my seat, made me cry, laugh, stress. All of the emotions, and had a tight grip on me. I watch this movie at least once a week with my grandpa who is dying soon, due to cancer of the lungs.
