Namrata Joshi The Hindu Kapoor and Shah bicker brilliantly, and with great dignity at that. Khan is expectedly charming and delightfully at ease with his personable self. Jan 2, 2019 Full Review Rachel Saltz New York Times Even though "Kapoor & Sons" goes from lightly comic to more darkly dramatic to pretty overtly melodramatic, it never loses its lived-in quality or plunges into the absurd. Mar 20, 2016 Full Review Pradeep Menon Firstpost Kapoor and Sons is more of a family film than Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham ever was. Nov 1, 2023 Full Review Tom Cassidy Common Sense Media And as this is an intense melodrama, we wouldn't have it any other way. Sexuality, infidelity, child favoritism, death, lying, stealing, drugs -- there are plenty of juicy morsels to wring the drama out of. Rated: 3/5 Dec 14, 2022 Full Review Anna M.M. Vetticad Firstpost Kapoor & Sons is hilarious, heartwarming and heartbreaking rolled in one. It does not wear its social conscience on its sleeve, but make no mistake about this: it has one. May 8, 2019 Full Review Shilpa Jamkhandikar Reuters In spite of the obvious lack of depth, and the rather predictable problems and solutions, Kapoor and Sons is powered by some great performances...Rajat Kapoor and Ratna Pathak Shah are fiery but it is Fawad Khan who steals the show. Vinay Sainath C Kapoor & Sons is an all-embracing family drama that provides you an exhaustive emotional workout. Tears, smiles, laughs - this movie churns them all out of you in good measure. A refreshing difference from the glorified family drama movies of that time, Kapoor & Sons portrays real-life struggles families often face - infidelity, jealousy, acceptance among others. The cast is stellar with Rishi Kapoor, Ratna Pathak Shaw, Fawad Khan and Rajat Kapoor stealing the show. Sidharth Malhotra feels a bit mechanical at times while Alia Bhatt is a tad under-utilised as an actor. Clearly, this is Shakun Batra's finest movie. Kapoor & Sons is one of the best family dramas made since the 2000s. If you love emotional roller-coasters that leave you warm and fuzzy in the end, this one's for you! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Ashish P Filled with great performances by the entire cast and a family story that can tug at your heartstrings, Kapoor & Sons prove that bollywood is at its best when it works on a personal level Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/18/23 Full Review Paras J I usually don't cry. I cried. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Bollywood's answer to Hollywood's mystic River in some sense, if not exactly same in its authenticity. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review arun s I did not feel so impressed with this film like others as it has a hackaneyed way in dealing with certain conflicts.. Overall decent film with good performances.Siddharth characterisation lacked finesse as compared to Fawad's and also not everyone speaks Hindi in Ooty. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member It went on for too long, creating one unnecessary problem after another, and then rushing to conclude everything at the very end. The writers missed every opportunity to tell the story about the kapoor family in an organized and thoughtful way. It was a complete waste of time, to be honest, and the son coming out as gay towards the end of the movie was completely pointless, adding to my point about creating too many unnecessary obstacles.
