Critics Consensus

Kids vs. Aliens occasionally comes close to offering the goofy fun promised by the title, although the end result is ultimately rather forgettable.

Katie Rife RogerEbert.com In keeping with our current "poptimistic" age, Kids Vs. Aliens keeps the aggressive neon splatter, but loses the cynicism—a choice that, for all the F-bombs and fake blood, makes it a surprisingly pure film. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 25, 2023 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times There is an endearingly scruffy vibe here, goosed by some cool-looking costumes and effects. And there’s a legitimate underdog edge, as Eisener and Davies capture how it feels to be underestimated and overmatched but full of can-do pluck. Jan 20, 2023 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com [Much] like with “Slumber Party Alien Abduction,” there is a nifty idea sitting at the center of Kids vs. Aliens. Too bad Eisner and his talented team don’t end up doing anything equally nifty with it. Rated: 1.5/4 Jan 20, 2023 Full Review Cheryl Eddy io9.com The latest from Jason Eisener offers exactly what the title promises—and a lot of fun to go with it. May 17, 2023 Full Review Erik Childress Movie Madness Podcast An ugly eyesore of a film with unlikable kids vs. boring aliens that is more likely to cause seizures in susceptible viewers rather than any kind of throwback fun. Rated: 1/4 Feb 16, 2023 Full Review Sandie Angulo Chen Common Sense Media It's somewhat promising at first, but the dialogue is so reliant on coarse language that it stops being novel by the 50th use of "effing" in the first 15 minutes. Steph N Nice low budget production. Don't take it too serious. It has speed and is fun. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/01/23 Full Review Nina E There are two sets of villains. First, the older kids, who bully the younger kids and the older sister who allows it because she wants the bullies to accept her. Then there's the aliens! There is a lot of swearing for a kids movie, kinda reminiscent of ET. The main kid got potty mouth but it's hilarious. The main bully could have been a slasher villain in his own right but unfortunately he ran in to some bad aliens before he could terrorize the town. The older sister is kinda like a copy of the older sister from Terrifier 2, she dons a superheroine costume and has a sword that seems to give her superhero powers. The ending is kinda like the Alf finale where the alien task force shows up and rounds up everyone. Stick around for the after credits, they throw in a little bonus. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/20/23 Full Review Brian O Don't movies usually have a target audience in mind? The story is childish and could only appeal to the very young or very simple minded, but the dialogue is foul and the action is gory and obviously inappropriate for children. Several of the child actors do give creditable performances. Phoebe Rex is particularly good, but honestly! Who is this movie made for? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/27/23 Full Review Courtney K well; it's not great, haha. it's a low-budget film & i cringed through most of it, but i watched the whole thing. there are good things about it - i just wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/22/23 Full Review Kevaughn B Nothing entertaining about the shows Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/19/23 Full Review Bryan S A short but enjoyable film that takes the first half to provide some kick ass, then heart wrenching character development before promptly swinging us in to what we want to see. Solid fight scenes with great gore. The cast did a phenomenal job with their roles. I also feel there's excellent opportunity for world building, and I hope opportunities arise to provide that in future movies in this 'verse.
