Critics Consensus

Kill Bill is admittedly little more than a stylish revenge thriller -- albeit one that benefits from a wildly inventive surfeit of style.

Los G The ultimate example of style over substance Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/24/25 Full Review BRizz 2 Kill Bill: Volume One – A Personal Yet Powerful Watch Kill Bill: Volume One is one of those films that leaves a strong impression—good or bad. For me, it’s a bit of both. While I have a personal aversion to the movie because someone once dressed up as The Bride (Uma Thurman’s character) and bullied me when I was younger, I can still recognize the film’s craftsmanship and impact. Uma Thurman delivers a powerhouse performance, bringing grit, emotion, and raw intensity to a character that has become iconic. Quentin Tarantino, love him or hate him, has a knack for stylized storytelling, and here he does what he does best—blending action, drama, and revenge with artistic flair. While I think not all his films land perfectly, this one definitely does. The story follows a revenge-driven woman on a path of destruction, and every corner she turns leads to another brutal fight or dramatic twist. It’s not just about blood and violence—though there’s plenty of that—but about resilience. The Bride doesn’t just dish out punishment; she takes it too, and keeps going. That duality makes her journey both empowering and human. One of the film’s greatest strengths is how it centers female strength without compromising on complexity. The supporting characters, especially the women, are dynamic, deadly, and unforgettable. The chemistry between the cast adds layers to each interaction, making every fight and every line matter. In the end, despite my personal feelings tied to it, Kill Bill: Volume One is a well-rounded, well-acted, and well-written film. If you’re a fan of stylized action and strong female leads, it’s absolutely worth a watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/22/25 Full Review Donavin D Kill Bill was the first R-rated movie I saw as a kid, the first movie that felt like it had something more to tell me, more to show me. The music, the tone, the ‘70s and ‘80s influence—it all hit me at once. Up until then, movies were mostly just colorful fun. I loved cartoons, but this felt different. It felt bigger. I needed more of that. I immediately searched the web (I was 8 so I asked my dad to) and found out who made the movie. That’s when I discovered Quentin Tarantino, and I was hooked. The over-the-top violence, the blood and gore, the cheesy one-liners that somehow still sound effortlessly cool—even today—they all worked. The movie's blend of comedy and tragedy, filtered through Tarantino’s obsession with old television and genre filmmaking, just clicked for me. The world of Kill Bill is both completely believable and completely absurd, and that balance is part of what makes it great. Uma Thurman shines as The Bride out for revenge on Bill, playing this incredibly sad and over the top character with an earnestness that someone else might have underplayed. Every fight scene is a blood-soaked, hyper-choreographed burst of joy. Every rewatch lifts my spirits. With a killer script, unforgettable characters, amazing action, and a distinct visual style, Kill Bill knows exactly what it is—and delivers on that vision with style and confidence. Only a few films have ever felt perfect to me, this one made that list with ease. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/16/25 Full Review Audience Member borren mi memoria para volverla a ver y emocionarme como la primera vez que la vi. =) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/05/25 Full Review B M. Not much plot. Final fight scene was ridiculously unrealistic and way too long. When the movie ended, I thought “that’s it?” Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/03/25 Full Review Hao Ian L With Tarantino's meticulous attention to detail and Thurman absolutely owning her character, Kill Bill: Vol. 1 is as perfect as a revenge action film as there can be.
