Critics Consensus

Kill Bill is admittedly little more than a stylish revenge thriller -- albeit one that benefits from a wildly inventive surfeit of style.

Ilya M Tarantino's signature nonlinear storytelling and sharp dialogue create a captivating narrative that keeps audiences on edge. The film is marked by its striking visuals, from vibrant color palettes to dynamic cinematography, particularly in the iconic final sequence, where martial arts choreography reaches exhilarating heights. Thurman delivers a powerful performance, embodying both vulnerability and fierce determination, while Lucy Liu's portrayal of O-Ren Ishii adds depth to the villainous ensemble. However, the film's excessive violence can be polarizing; it often straddles the line between homage and gratuitousness. While some may appreciate the stylized brutality, others might find it overwhelming. Despite this, Volume 1 ultimately passes the testament of time, blending genres and pushing boundaries. It's a bold exploration of themes like betrayal and vengeance, solidifying its place as a cult classic in modern cinema and as my personal favorite. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/07/24 Full Review Marlon W Very good, great film about revenge, Tarantino's direction is impeccable, sometimes I find some things a little exaggerated, but it's a great film Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/27/24 Full Review Alvaro B Tarantino's unique style and cinematography is amazing as always. The man knows exactly what he wants to show and how he wants to do it, and clearly made stereotypes its strongest point, reinventing itself. The story, despite not being the most complex, is also its strong point because it is digestible, satisfying and entertaining. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/21/24 Full Review Audience Member A well told story. Uma Thurman’s physicality makes the movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/06/24 Full Review Nikolai O I really like the soundtrack, the characters, and the directing. Story is simple but well executed.
