Hyrule B
This movie had potential to be a good homage to 1980s slasher films. It started off strong with a great opening kill scene. It feels like there might have been an actual movie buried somewhere in there, but: the choice to hire actresses based on their physical attributes rather than their acting ability; the poor cinematography and/or directing choices; and scenes / story beats that make little to no sense turned this from a "B" movie to simply a bad movie.
.
.
I am in no way a prude, so have zero issue with nudity in film (regardless of gender), but that nudity has to make sense in the story of the film. This movie just seemed to want to show off naked or half-naked women for no other reason than it could.
.
.
As far as story goes, once we finally get to it, it seems that our main character, Audra's, brother in law has decided to kill off his in-laws and his wife, in order to get their inheritance (we don't know he's the killer until nearly the end of the movie). If done right, this could have been a good story. However, there is also some random subplot about an ex-boyfriend sneaking goats into the house to mess with Audra (again, we don't know he had anything to do with this until nearly the end), and for some unexplained reason, one of the women staying at the house has an odd dream where she wanders around a cemetary half naked and, eventually, gets drowned in the dream by a "Goatface" killer. But, there is no plot relevant reason for this dream or for the character to know about the Goatface killer, nor does her in dream death have any relation to her actual movie death... which happens off screen and seems to involve her getting slashed up in her sleep.
.
When Audra, essentially our final girl, shows up to find her sister is now there, having also been attacked, and that one of the Goatface killers is/was her sister's husband (we never find out who the other killer is; yes there were two), the sister who he just attacked stops Audra from hacking up his wounded body, despite him having just attempting to kill her and admiting that he killed her father. Then, rather than call the police, Audra finishes off her wounded friend and attacks the ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend while they are coming to check on her (they had just found the body of one of the killers, who Audra had killed). Somehow Audra had known these two were behind the goats rather than the two killers wearing goat heads. Why did our final girl turn into a crazy killer? Who knows, the plot was so vague and had so many things that didn't make sense.
This movie did have one saving grace, however. I got it for free with a better movie: Fog City.

… If I could give it 0 stars I would. Worst movie I have ever watched in my life. Doesn’t even make sense. Everyone is naked. Like what? Acting was worse than horrible. Don’t watch it unless you want to commit suicide.

One needs to know what they are getting into before watching a film like Kill Her Goats. If you're a fan of cheesy 80s horror in the vein of Hennenlotter's Basket Case or Tim Ritter's Truth or Dare series then this is for you. Let's be honest, the plot is thin at best, which I suspect is by design. What Kill Her Goats does is deliver a fun watch that makes me long for the days of the Mom and Pop video shop. What was even better is they also gave it a VHS release which is how I chose to watch it since I'm a sucker for physical media (as Greg from FanZcene says, it is the superior format), especially VHS and laserdisc. I popped this in my VCR and enjoyed the ride in good old 4:3 aspect ratio. I like what Steve Wolsh did with Kill Her Goats which knows what it is and makes no apologies for it. This movie is a trip down the memory lane of low-budget, homegrown slasher films. How can it not be with the casting of the legendary Kane Hodder as our goat headed slasher, but also the name of our fictional town of West Craven. If like me, you long for the days of spending countless hours in the video store reading the back of Styrofoam filled slipcases, then going home and seeing if the film is a pearl or a just another oyster, then get ready for that kind of a viewing experience. In the 80s, Kill Her Goats may have been just an oyster, but in today's digital age, it is (especially on VHS) a true nostalgic pearl.
