Tommy McCoy (Mickey Rooney), a young man from the slums of New York City, is a rising lightweight boxing star. His success helps him support his alcoholic father, Brian (James Dunn). Tommy sees the dark side of boxing when he gets involved with gambler Jim Caighn (Brian Donlevy), who intends to rig Tommy's fights. To make matters worse, Tommy falls in love with Jim's daughter, Sheila (Ann Blyth). A big fight is imminent, and Tommy must decide if he will continue to play Jim's treacherous game.

David K Dec 27 A very good remake where Rooney excels as a boxer with compassion weighed down by an alcoholic father and a gambler who takes care of him more than the father. Rooney's performance is worth the price of admission as it breaks so much from a lot of his earlier, pre-WWII service. Well-paced and the fight sequences are outstanding. See more 08/17/2013 Strong performances by all that exceeds expectations. The director must have been impressed by Rooney's physique as he had plenty of shirtless scenes. See more 08/18/2011 In his second film since coming back from war service MGM thought that a remake of the Robert Taylor classic from 1938 The Crowd Roars would be perfectly suited for Mickey Rooney. With a little post war updating it was in fact a perfect film for him now entitled Killer McCoy. Killer McCoy was a good part for Rooney. Sad to say in his next two films he was miscast and MGM dropped him. They should have given more material like Killer McCoy. *from IMDb I watched this because I had only seen one other Mickey Rooney movie, I think he would have been a kick ass leading man had he been a foot taller.
