Brian Lowry CNN.com It's all a good deal of fun, bringing the animated show to life while riffing on those conventions. That said, the tone can be a bit uneven. Booga L When I first heard whispers of a live action Kim Possible movie, I considered it a horrible idea. It couldn't be anything but bad. The premise for the cartoon show was ludicrous (I can use that word. I'm over 12). The reason it worked on the show was because it was a CARTOON!! The same premise or ingredients in a live action movie would reduce it to a forgettable novelty movie. Or it would have to be a movie geared for really small, gullible children. I'm a big fan of the Kim Possible cartoon series. It was clever, fun, entertaining and funny. But as a fan I did not ever want to see a live action movie of it made. It doesn't take a brain surgeon or a rocket scientist to know translating a quality cartoon like Kim Possible to live action would be a disastrous venture. There is no memorable live action movie in existence that was taken from cartoon source material. All of them can now be found in the DVD bargain bin of a Smarty Mart store for $2.99 or less. And at that price they're all still way over priced. Out of curiosity I watched multiple reviews, and read the synopsis of the storyline. Based on that information I'm convinced it's even worse than I thought it would be. But I'm not surprised in the least. What made the original show popular? It was prepared using all the right ingredients. Everything gelled. Voice actors, writing, character development, animation style, etc. The recipe produced a cartoon that appealed to a lot of people, young and old. A cartoon that is still, so many years later, enjoyable to watch. Drastically changing that recipe by using completely different ingredients is not going to produce the same flavor. And it's going to put off a lot of fans. Who's old enough to remember when Coca-Cola decided to tamper with their soda recipe? How did that work out for them? I have not even watched this movie. And I have zero plans on ever watching it. I've seen enough clips in video reviews and heard enough descriptions that convince me that even without watching it, I'm right on the money with my assessment of it. The clips I've seen from the actual movie are painful to watch. It looks like a train wreck. Everything I've seen screams: "DON'T WATCH THIS GARBAGE!" Even the clips Disney used to "promote" the movie to try to get viewers do nothing but clue me in on how bad it is. The bottom line is Hollywood needs to stop producing live action movies based on beloved cartoons. They don't work on any memorable level except for how awful they ultimately end up being. Watch the original episodes and the two animated movies if you need to satisfy your Kim Possible fix. Watching some substandard live action movie will only serve to stir up your ire for the disservice they did to the reputation of the show. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/09/24 Full Review Audience Member it's been over 17 years since the TV show Kim Possible debuted on the Disney Channel I remember tuning in almost every day to watch the story of a teenage high school student being famously known for getting people out of tough situations along with her best friend she also has assistance from her family and a tech genius Christy Carlson Romano from 'Even Steven's fame voiced the titular character being one of the earliest butt-kicking, empowering female role models for girls when all there was was celebrities like Paris Hilton just flaunting themselves in public and not living up to what everybody expects now newcomer Sadie Stanley takes the role bringing the hit show to live-action the story here has Kim and her friend Ron Stoppable entering their first day of high school in Middleton, it's a modern, updated and more believable vision of actual high school students arch villains Dr. Drakken and Sheego escape from imprisonment to get revenge on Kim and make her lose that spark that gives her the drive to save people from danger on top of that, a brand new character Athena comes into the picture who doesn't have a friend in the world Kim then shows her kindness and friendship and Athena happens to be a huge fan of hers but that could possibly start a rift in Kim's world by being a better operative than her Kim may be in danger of being overshadowed by Athena's rise to fame and success all the familiar players make their live-action debut including Kim's parents, her siblings, Wade, Rufus the naked mole rat, and even school rival Bonnie the film is immensely colorful like its source material with over-the-top action, plenty of callbacks to various episodes, and manages to teach the important value of friendship there's even an incredible cameo by Christy Carlson Romano herself which will be welcome surprise for long-time fans! despite a majority of changes made a lot of the young cast members do an impressive job bringing their animated counterparts to life Drakken and Sheego are their fun, campy selves next to this version of Ron plus the various locations fan know and love Sadie Stanley really makes the character of Kim spark and amazingly brings the feels for a lot of emotional moments it's a lot of her we haven't seen before which is a nice breath of fresh air there's even an insane plot twist I'm pretty happy I didn't see coming! that puts a whole new spin on things and for Kim herself all we can do is be the best version of ourselves, we cannot let jealously become us, is it more about what we do or who we are?, if others eclipse us then who are we?, being a better friend can make any one of us a better hero to my surprise this is actually a fantastic, updated version of the TV show; terrific thrills, meta references, great emotional heft, and a very clever end teaser that will hopefully lead to future stories if the makers can play their cards right happy to report that Kim Possible is still kicking and saving the world great job Disney!
