Jonny K Absolute Schwarzenegger masterpiece. A must watch. It's very funny with a clever twist of action and mystery. This movie proves that Arnold Schwarzenegger has a comedic side. It's so different than his usual Terminator type roles. It's definitely an action comedy. The beginning there's a lot of action. Some parts of the movie are probably not suitable for kids under the age of 12. But as the movie progresses there are moments of hilarity. Like when detective John Kimble meets the kindergarten kids for the first time. There are some family friendly moments. The part where John brings his pet ferret to class. There's enough action scenes & LOL moments to keep the most finicky moviegoer in their seats. Don't want to give away any spoiler alerts but John Kimble & his partner aren't the only heroes in the film. They get a Little help from a furry friend. Ivan Reitman joined hands with his Twins star Arnold Schwarzenegger for this really wonderful (and highly underrated) picture. In fact, out of Schwarzenegger's long and illustrious career as a blockbuster star, he cited this film as his all time favourite. On the surface Kindergarten Cop acts as a family friendly picture, but when you watch the film you realize its a well crafted darker family film. Not many family movies feature scenes like the beginning investigation sequences, or the surprisingly dark bathroom shootout in the climax. This is one of the reasons this film stands out a lot more compared to other family films from the 90s. Reitman knows how to utilize his star and how to blend his action persona with lighter comedic material. Though Twins saw him in a lighter role, this film literally feels like a remix of his action roles being thrown into a funny situation. The idea of a fish out of water situation with Arnold's cop being thrown into a teacher position is hilarious. The movie banks off the comedy of his character having to deal with the young children and how his unorthodox teaching methods rubs his colleagues in a funny way. A lot of times we always think of Arnold as this Goliath of a persona, but this film captured an earnest nature that is absent in many of Arnold's films. He seems really at home, and he still gets to play up his action persona, while also being able to explore his softer side. Its one of my favourite films growing up, and one I've watched countless times. Its also one Arnold's most quotable films. A delightful film that deserves more credit for being more than just a formulaic family film.
