Audience Member A lot of interesting film techniques. There are two long sequences where Vertov experiments with reversing time: one is an un-slaughtering of a bull and one is an un-baking of bread. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Silent Russian propaganda film features stunning trick camerawork by director Vertov which never ceases to amaze. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Definitely not as painstaking as Man with a Movie Camera, but still presents some pretty unnecessary moments (ex. the insane asylum patients). Revolutionary for its approach, "the invisible camera" catching "life unawares." Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member A lot like Man with the Movie Camera -- the same enthusiasm for bold technique, as the camera explores one scene after another from its unique perspective. It's even more overtly political, however, and that's kind of a turn-off. Also, the backwards stuff gets old quick and the film as a whole is rough around the edges. But, this is one of Vertov's early films, and I guess he needed a few more years to perfect his style. I suppose it's pretty groundbreaking for 1924. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member A movie made in 1924 that shows the russian day by day in time. Some nice effects for the time of the movie, but this is just a docummentay that works as propaganda for Lenin governement.
