Geoff Andrew Time Out A beautifully photographed film. Feb 9, 2006 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ...far more sophisticated than most horror or vampire movies, and the restraint is to be commended... Rated: 3/5 Oct 24, 2021 Full Review Andy Crump Paste Magazine The duality indulges in critique of wealth culture and classic horror tropes, and this, along with Sharp's craftsmanship and Hinds' writing, gives The Kiss of a Vampire an identity all its own. nick s Not too many thrills and spills for three quarters of the movie. It just didn't build a sense of ominous foreboding. The plot didn't make a lot of sense to me... conjure up evil to destroy evil? Also the special effects were not strong - bats on nylon lines and too much spaghetti sauce. Good acting though. The last 20 mins was finally a bit more entertaining, but finished too abruptly. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Michael C "The Kiss of the Vampire" (Shown on American television under the title "Kiss of Evil") is another Hammer Film Production horror film. As is usually the case with Hammer films the color and production design are quite good. However, you know there is a problem when you have plenty of style but not an equal amount of substance. "The Kiss of the Vampire" is a very slow moving movie. It is unnecessarily drawn out. It's also a bit unusual to see a Hammer film without the late Peter Cushing or the late Christopher Lee, but I am digressing. The story is very dull. Not something you say often about a horror film. The cast is all well and good and give decent performances, but that is just one good point outnumbered by many flaws. "The Kiss of the Vampire" is not a terrible movie, but it is not a movie I would recommend. Hammer Film Productions has done better. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member The beautiful, hypnotic score by James Bernard and the splendid technicolor(I call it Hammer color)is worth watching! Plenty of beautiful people in this one as almost all the Hammer films have plenty of eye candy to view! The ending is dramatic and real scary! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review andy f The use of Eastmancolour is glorious and the sets are nice but this is a typically overrated Hammer fare. One of the weakest vampire films I've seen, it is just pretty boring. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Gorgeous set pieces and cinematography, with a pretty cool gothic story. I dug the vampire cult aspect of it. But the film drags a little bit, and then had a completely shoddy and asinine ending. Would've been worth a watch for Hammer fans of that ending didn't completely shit the bed. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Imagine if House of Dracula and Devil Rides Out were combined but significantly more mediocre. Clifford Evans does a good job as Coffin Joe look alike Professor Zimmer, and there's some really really wild sequences, but most of the movie is a bore that would've been suspenseful had the writing "genius" of Anthony Hinds not had a habit of playing his cards early. Worth a watch if you're bored. Set design and music are still good though. Worth a watch if you're bored. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
