Teenager Sandra (Molly Parker) is obsessed with death, so much so that after wandering into a funeral home she wishes to be a mortician. But this fascination becomes highly sexual, as Sandra develops a taste for necrophilia. Her secret passion doesn't cause any problems until she goes to college and meets medical student Matt (Peter Outerbridge), who soon falls for the unusual young lady. She comes clean about her morbid sexuality, but turning her on to the world of the living is no easy task.

Lisa Alspector Chicago Reader Though Stopkewich has astutely recognized the contradictions in our uneasy relationship to the dead, she doesn’t seem to have examined her own uneasy relationship to the story she tells. Audience Member You're in the path of something beyond your control We are kissed by life, love even death Molly Parker plays a teenager Sandra, she's always been fascinated by death Whether it's deceased animals even people As a mortician she's very much aroused by the dead bodies she tends to do it leads her to engage in necrophilia Later she meets medical student Matt in college therefore causing problems for her job and potential love-life Even after Sandra comes clean about her unhealthy lifestyle turning on the world of the living presents its own obstacle This covers one of the most disturbing fetishes mankind has ever conceived Oddly the two love interests try their hardest to reach an understanding why death is amazing, Sandra attempts to gather the dead's energy or transformation She's still compelled to cross over and experience the inexplicable moments Yet the film still could be about spirituality or even transcendence itself Not many people will truly comprehend what this woman does to feel complete Heck the stuff most are into is considered taboo; yet for all its repulsion it can be properly dissected Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Strange, sensitive, offbeat, touching. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautifully, thoughtfully shot. Patiently and brilliantly acted. Just stunning and interesting and magical. I don't know how I missed this one. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member This one didn't do anything for me. Of course there's the premise: necrophilia. But it's hard to feel anything for any of the characters because you're kept at arms length the entire time. (Which I suppose is for the best considering the subject matter.) But like the corpses Sandra does it with, you won't end up feeling anything. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member A woman with a fetish for dead things becomes infatuated with the bodies at the funeral home she works at and soon becomes sexually obsessed with them. Molly Parker is outstanding as a social outcast who believes that her obsession is a form of transcendence. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member This film stands out in the way that it non-exploitatively portrays necrophilia (and in particular, a female necrophile). That's not to say, though, that it condones or makes light of the desecration of corpses. It's just that a taboo subject such as necrophilia is more impactful when it is presented realistically, as opposed to being presented as a gory and violent horror film (which is probably what most other necrophilia-focused films are like).
