Kay is in trouble. A strange encounter in the woods has left her with no memory. Only one thing is certain: she is the spitting image of missing monster hunter, Barb Valentine. When an intruder breaks into her house, she runs, with no idea where she's going; but she knows her only chance to reconnect is to shed more light onto Barb's mysterious disappearance. Random encounters seem to point her in the right direction, but what was hoped to be a journey of self-discovery gradually becomes a hunt for the monster itself.

Incoherent narratives need to be offset by captivating visuals. “Kryptic” simply doesn’t have that in its favor. Go to Full Review

The movie lays out a lot of interesting ideas about autonomy, self-discovery, and sexuality but it leaves them all at a surface level. Go to Full Review

Once the ambiguously framed story clicks its metaphor into place, Kryptic transforms into an unconventional slice of goopy cryptid horror. Go to Full Review

Kryptic brings an air of mystery to its viewers, especially well after the credits roll. Roy makes it clear that she is not interested in providing a finite or compact set of questions and answers that we would see in any typical enigmatic narrative film. Go to Full Review

Unfortunately, Kay is little more than a passenger on her own journey, even if the destination is one of self-fulfillment. Go to Full Review

V V Aug 20 Like a David Lynch fever dream. Unflinching and raw, confounding and uncomfortably strange, in the best way. Phenomenal cinematography, excellent score, and acting that feels like reading a book you just can’t put down. First time I watched it, I was compelled to immediately watch it again. If you don’t keep an open mind when you tune in, you won’t even pick up on all the nuanced details. I can’t wait to see more material from these talented creators. See more g j Jun 15 Some good ideas, but as a whole the film is too tonally inconsistent to bring them together compellingly. See more Katt A May 30 This movie is the most boring, yet confusing mess I've ever seen. It's either boring you to tears, making next to no sense, or showing you weird non-con intercut with weird monster intercourse with lots of "goo". If you're an SA survivor then I say avoid this at all costs tbh because it did not sit well with me AT ALL. A better body horror-esc movie would be Society. See more JOHN LASER M May 22 This movie is just a waste of time. The story line is just so poor. The concept is there though. It could've been a great movie with that concept with good story line and execution. But everything is downhill. The actors are good though! See more Aldis H May 20 Not normally a fan of symbolically dense and nonsensically surreal movies, but in this one there is a thread that leaves a lot of cool things to be considered. And for once, I don't mind that nothing is super clear, and the ending is what you want it to be. See more Matthew P May 17 Post traumatic stress disseminated as cinematic metaphor of the monster type... Unfortunately, rather than having this layer as an undercurrent, it's fully visible in the narrative... and this lack of subtext saps the film of a requirement that is essential for this type of story to be successful.
