John DeFore The Hollywood Reporter Even those with a strong tolerance for monster-movie gore are far from guaranteed to accept its warm, clumpy bath of repugnant ickiness. Jul 25, 2017 Full Review Simon Abrams RogerEbert.com Kuso may often feel unproductively loud, and monotonous, but it is a head-scratcher worth contending with. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 21, 2017 Full Review Kristen Yoonsoo Kim Pitchfork Maybe Kuso becomes coherent on a second or third viewing, but few would (or should) attempt such torture. Jul 20, 2017 Full Review Carolyn Mauricette View From The Dark This is why the Black director and cast composed of mostly people of colour is so important. It shows that we too have a sensibility for the avant-garde, perhaps even more so since some of our real-life experiences can be surreal... May 16, 2019 Full Review Tomas Trussow The Lonely Film Critic If this is the grossest film ever made, though, it's also quite dull. That's the barefaced truth of it. Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 5, 2018 Full Review Simon Foster Screen-Space Loud, objectionable, occasionally funny but mostly trying, the visual experimentation and adherence to all things ugly quickly grows tiresome. Blingus D Flying lotuses contributions make this film hard to watch. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/26/24 Full Review hyacynthe7 Ok this is a movie that should just never have been made. Hated it. Do not watch it. I gave it 1.5 stars for creativity. Not to be mistaken for actually enjoying it, because there is no joy in this film. It is a 90 minute series of almost all disconnected scenes depicting some of the grossest stuff ever. The director must have had some obsession with mouth sores because many of the scenes had people on it with huge and disgusting mouth sores. I saw this a few years ago on Shudder so I can't remember all of the details, just lots of bodily fluids, disgusting sex with sores, rotten body parts, etc. I'm a huge horror fan and love gore and weirdness but this movie was total gross out. I read some reviews that there are deeper meanings but I couldn't get past all the feces and pus. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/18/23 Full Review Audience Member That was grotesque. Figuratively and literally. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member If you love body horror. If you love Flying lotus and Aphex Twin's music. If you love David Firth's level of futility and creepiness. If you love these elements all wrapped up in a post apocalyptic free for all studded with an all star cast, then you will enjoy this film. If you are at all squeamish and/or not privy to avant garde film making, this is not the film for you. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Kuso is a highly underrated but also an acquired taste. It’s not a film most people will enjoy. There are a lot of great artistic/comedic minds who worked on Kuso such as Flying Lotus, David Firth (salad fingers 2007), Hannibal Buress (Eric Andre show) and Tim Heidecker (Tim and Eric Awesome Show) amongst many others. Below are a couple important things to note before watching this film. - Kuso is more of an experimental art film than a comedy. Although comedy is a big part of Kuso, it really should be treated as an art film - Kuso is nasty. Its a well done film with disgusting imagery and dialogue. Anyone who’s familiar with the work of David Firth (Salad Fingers, Fat Pie.com) knows what to expect - The film is vignette style, there are several story lines with different actors, tones, visual styles and mediums. - Music is an important part of Kuso and features original music by Flying Lotus as well as other music by Buttress and Kamasi Washington amongst many others This is a film for people who enjoy absurdism and alternative comedy. It’s not for everyone but it’s still a film I recommend. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/25/19 Full Review Audience Member umm... wtf. i'm a big fan of weird & a big fan of David Lynch, which is why this film intrigued me. i'm also a fan of David Firth for some unknown reason; i watched the whole thing -- but i did not get this one. there was just too much gross imagery to get past whatever message they were trying to get across. however, i did some Google searching to see what other people were saying about it & didn't really find much. an interview from Flying Lotus himself didn't even have much to say about any hidden meanings, etc. so i'm thinking this was just made to be gross. & i'm not interested enough to dig any further.
