As World War II begins and the U.S. Navy sets up shop in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the local elite decide to throw a final party at a casino that's being converted to a military base. There, government worker Jose Manuel (Daniel Lugo) announces he's breaking off his engagement to Rita (Raul Julia), a woman he doesn't love who comes from a rich family.
