Ilya O Made me laugh and cry Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/10/23 Full Review John F best film that i have seen in a long time Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/07/23 Full Review charming m Thoroughly enjoyable, although maybe only romantics will fall for its many charms. Très French, so très chic and sexy with some nice humorous touches, you'll wish you could travel back with bored character Daniel Auteuil back to his personal golden epoch with some beautiful people too. Although rooted in the modern day, it says more about the past and nostalgia with every glib cliché drawn from a gay 70s palette. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/04/22 Full Review isla s This is a French comedy fantasy drama film, with the first half being quite amusing, with perhaps relatable domestic tiffs shown and the like, then, in the 2nd half, it becomes somewhat more surreal, a bit more 'Truman Show'-esque, only the main character is partly in on it. Its a bit hard to describe to someone who hasn't seen it, without giving obvious spoilers. I quite admire some French films for how weirdly arty and philosophical they can be. Its surprisingly poignant and I found towards the end it became particularly romantic. Yes, I'd recommend this film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I absolutely loved the idea for this film. Genius. Would definitely recommend it. Peter Bradshaw Guardian It's comedy-drama that is not funny enough to count as a comedy and not plausible enough to count as a drama. Rated: 2/5 Nov 21, 2019 Full Review Peter Debruge Variety Where so many high-concept romantic comedies squander their one big idea, "La Belle Époque" leverages its own to remind how and why we fall in love in the first place... Jun 3, 2019 Full Review Todd McCarthy Hollywood Reporter Everything clicks here, all the time. May 22, 2019 Full Review Jane Freebury The Canberra Times (Australia) This delicious tale of lovers a half century apart is a postmodern romance. Part choose your own romantic adventure and era, part relationship drama. Rated: 4/5 Aug 23, 2022 Full Review Erick Estrada Cinegarage Cleverness and brilliant editing will sustain us through a story that's irremediably elemental, simple, and light. Jul 28, 2022 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue Sure it’s manipulative, but this uneven French romantic comedy is also overflowing with old-fashioned uplifting charm.
