While it's arguably more interesting on a visual level, Labyrinth provides further proof of director Jim Henson's boundless imagination.

Sarah Marshall Bitch Media [David Bowie's] labyrinth, frightening as it was, was also a place where you could encounter what confused you and find out who you really were and what you were capable of. It was always worth the trip. Feb 9, 2021 Full Review Tasha Robinson AV Club While the off-kilter rock songs Bowie wrote and performed for the film are far from his best work, his character performance is gloriously iconic, a perfect blend of predatory, leering rock star and hurt, rejected emo lover. Rated: B+ Dec 20, 2019 Full Review Steven D. Greydanus Decent Films Plays like The Wizard of Oz or Alice in Wonderland crossed with a middling episode of "The Muppet Show" guest-starring David Bowie … suffers from a distinct lack of charm. Rated: C Sep 21, 2007 Full Review Brian Orndorf Blu-ray.com Perhaps "Labyrinth" isn't as commanding as "The Dark Crystal," but themes resonate and a sense of humor is welcome, turning the picture into a highly amusing viewing experience. It also provides another reminder of Henson's special brilliance. Rated: A- Mar 8, 2025 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy David Bowie is regal in a role for which Mick Jagger, Sting, and Michael Jackson were also considered. Brooke Labyrinth is my favorite movie and it was so exciting to see it in a theatre on the big screen with surround sound. I brought my boys and we had so much fun!! Thank you for screening it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/11/24 Full Review Eric G For how amazing this film is, its surprising they never made a sequel or a spin off series. We have a story with a clear goal, character growth, a fantastic world, and most of all, amazing characters. I love how there's something new to see around every corner. Definitely Bowie's best movie, Jim Henson's best, and one of the best fantasy films ever made. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/12/25 Full Review Audience Member Creative designs, characters and set pieces. David Bowie is a bit creepy Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/06/25 Full Review Audience Member I'm 53 and have never seen this all the way through... until last night. I'm sorry but it can only be nostalgia fueling the love for this monstrosity. Literally one of the worst big budget mainstream mobile I've ever seen. I'm a huge Henson fan, but this was just bad on almost every level. If you love it, more power to you. Terrible in my opinion. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/05/25 Full Review Kevin P A unique dark fantasy with insane puppetry and practical effects from the Jim Henson Company. Literally entire sets come alive with VERY creative puppetry, from the walls to the door knockers to even faces made from a pit full of empty hands. David Bowie is awesome as the Goblin King and easily steals the show with his great musical numbers. Jennifer Connelly's character is infuriating in the beginning with her melodramatic treatment of her baby brother, but luckily the rest of the movie is her trying to make up for it and she shapes up very quickly once the adventure sets in. The side characters are all great, including the cowardly Hoggle, the lumbering Ludo, and the brave Sir Didymus. The plot is a bit thin and hard to follow, and the ending could've been better. But you're there for the adventure, which is very solid thanks to all of the trippy visuals and catchy musical numbers. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/03/25 Full Review Alexander T This movie is amazing. It’s super nostalgic and has a cool plot. It’s probably one of my favorite movies. It is also very entertaining. Even if your like 50 you should still watch this.
