Barry C A lovely film set in Yorkshire where I hail from. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review isla s I enjoyed the landscapes/cinematography and it was somewhat amusing at times but it was also fairly predictable and there was at least one instance of over acting. There are some stereotypes depicted of people from 'Gods own county', which perhaps wasn't ideal. I thought it was an ok watch - it seemed more like a long-ish TV show, rather than an all out feature film as such. It felt a bit slow/plodding, pace wise but its not an awful film, just a distinctly ok but thats all sort of a film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member More taxpayers money down the drain. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member A movingly told story (significantly autobiographical, based on the life of the director/writer) of the consequences for a small Yorkshire family following the sudden death of the father. The acting is impressive and thoughtfully developed, all the characters being believable. The scenery is beautiful. There's an excellent lesson for heartless, inflexible bankers which is enough of a delight to make the whole film worth seeking out! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member You're never going to be able to knock the setting, are you?! Stunning scenery and a well-matched film score set the stage for this drama, with its roots grounded in reality (I hadn't realised Dan Hartley's personal relationship with his childhood mentor had inspired this movie). The compelling, believable and relatable performances from the Cast make it resonate on many levels, keeping the story real and alive Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A little known English film that sadly never seem to get the distribution that it deserved. It's about a 13 year old boy, Tom. He loses his father all of a sudden and that changes everything. His brother is acting differently and decides to join the army, his mom is sad and angry and the bank is treathening to take the house. Tom has a negative reaction and does get in trouble with both school and the law. He must therefore work with the park ranger for a while. This is a very legit and emotional story. What it does so brillantly is adding in the perfect humor and happier scenes within all the hard life struggles. It's well acted and the cinematography is lovely. The characers are full of emotions and they're development are superb. The short playtime is fitting and under constant movement and change - in a good way. It's very fascinating that the director dedicated this film to a real-life park ranger who was his own mentor when he was younger. This is by the way director Dan Hartley's first full length film and he has not done any other projects after this one, but he has been working with camera stuff in other big productions. 8.5 out of 10 dung slingers.
