04/29/2021 If there is one thing I didn't like in this documentary its a short sequence at the start of the film where many people all dressed in Star Wars cosplay are all asked if they have heard of Alan Ladd Jr, they all reply ‘no' Which drove me nuts. Why did it drive me nuts? Well because all die hard Star Wars fans should know who Alan Ladd Jr, is. Without Alan, there likely would be no Star Wars, and there certainly wouldnt have been Star Wars at the time we got it, i =n the wat we got it. But hey, other than that small sequence, this documentary was a gem! An absolute gem. If you are a fan of movies (and aren't we all) then you'll have a big smile on your face with this documentary, and if you are also interested in the background to some of your favourite films, then do check this out as you'll uncover some gem stories. My personal favourite is the story about how the idea for Police Academy came around. Pure genius See more 10/13/2019 It's a really nice documentary. Made by Ladd's daughter it often feels more like a love letter to someone she's seeking approval from rather than a detailed documentary. But upon further thought, that's okay. Part of me wants to believe that someone that successful couldn't get that way w/o being a bit of a tyrant. But that's perhaps more due to being conditioned by Hollywood story-telling. Maybe Mr. Ladd is everything people in the documentary say he is...Incredibly smart and incredibly soft-spoken. I was left puzzling why Warner Bros. wouldn't renew his deal when he'd provided hits there but then again, maybe digging too deeply isn't the purpose of this documentary. It's incredibly entertaining and if it winds up serving as his epitaph (beyond the many wonderful movies he helped make happen) that's not a bad thing at all. See more Read all reviews
