Damien Sachs (Sacha Baron Cohen) seemingly has it all: money, power, and a never ending stream of casual flings. As he prepares to ascend to the role of CEO at a leading advertising agency, his life is turned upside down when he wakes up in his worst nightmare: a parallel world dominated by women. Where he once ruled the boardroom, he now finds himself humbled and going head-to-head with the newly fierce and fearless Alex Fox (Rosamund Pike). With the rules of engagement changed and Alex at the top of her game, the two boldly battle it out in a playful and satirical comedy about what happens when the script is flipped.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

A subversion of gender roles that feels outdated upon arrival, Ladies First's topsy-turvy fantasy is too cloying to wring many laughs from the battle of the sexes.

The destination of “Ladies First” might as well be on tracks. But Ms. Pike is terrific, as are Ms. Shaw, Mr. Dance and Mr. Baron Cohen, an agile comedian in a production that isn’t particularly taxing. Go to Full Review

Director Thea Sharrock presents a somewhat predictable but entirely cathartic take on what it really would look like if women ran the world, and it is fine companion viewing for Eléonore Pourriat’s French film I Am Not an Easy Man, on which it’s based. Go to Full Review

The gender politics, much like the French original, are bonkers and alarmingly retro. Go to Full Review

If the film was retro-fit back to the 1960s, the dynamics may have rung truer but it still wouldn’t have been funny. Suggesting that it is radical for men to be relegated to cooking duty in 2026 you can almost hear Danny Trejo say 'Guys can do stuff now.' Go to Full Review

While Ladies First boasts a fun cast, the movie’s morals are even more dated and regressive than its French-language 2018 original. Go to Full Review

Eleni N @RT78064358 16h A topic I strongly care about made into a joke. Horrible. See more Stacy M @RT43796768 1d As a woman, I feel like it sheds light on all the degrading areas which men have normalized in regards to woman. Why is it normal/common seeing female breasts everywhere? Why is it normal/common for woman to always be subordinate? Why is it normal/common for woman to be deemed soft or emotional when being human/expressive? I love that this movie shed light on these issues, yes it was portrayed in a comedic way for entertainment, but the depth was there. It should enlighten people and make men and woman think about how we live moving forward. See more TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 2d Ladies First is a comedy built around a clever concept where men and women experience a reversal of traditional workplace roles. On paper, it sounds like the perfect setup for sharp satire and hilarious situations, but the film never fully takes advantage of its own premise. The cast does a decent job, and the performances are fine, but it feels like the movie needed stronger or more recognizable leads to elevate the material. The biggest issue is the screenplay. Instead of exploring the role reversal in creative and unexpected ways, much of the film relies on dialogue-heavy scenes that repeat the same ideas. There are moments where the concept shows real potential, but the movie rarely pushes itself far enough to become memorable or genuinely funny. That does not make it a bad film. The story is easy to follow, and the premise remains interesting throughout. However, it often feels like a missed opportunity. See more Ruby C @TurtleBurtle 2d This movie was absolutley awesome, the only thing that bothers me is the fact that he only re-hired her cause he ended up liking her. And for those who 'are not feminist' Why? what about those pants you are wearing? the job you work? the house you own. Feminisim is equality not women better then men. Please. You are Feminist in this day and age unless you dont work, wear only the clothes formally accepted to the society unless you want to be arrested for wearing pants, have 5 kids that only you take care of along with cooking every meal and cleaning the whole house yourself, submit to a husband, dont own anything including a bank account, and you cannot go to the doctors without a man. Please research and be a Feminist. we still need it. See more Nick M @Nick_Miller 2d Sliding Doors. Minus the good bits. See more Laura W. @lamichelle2 3d It was clever, hilarious, thought-provoking, and the acting superb. Critics definitely got this one wrong. See more Read all reviews
