Damien Sachs (Sacha Baron Cohen) seemingly has it all: money, power, and a never ending stream of casual flings. As he prepares to ascend to the role of CEO at a leading advertising agency, his life is turned upside down when he wakes up in his worst nightmare: a parallel world dominated by women. Where he once ruled the boardroom, he now finds himself humbled and going head-to-head with the newly fierce and fearless Alex Fox (Rosamund Pike). With the rules of engagement changed and Alex at the top of her game, the two boldly battle it out in a playful and satirical comedy about what happens when the script is flipped.

The destination of “Ladies First” might as well be on tracks. But Ms. Pike is terrific, as are Ms. Shaw, Mr. Dance and Mr. Baron Cohen, an agile comedian in a production that isn’t particularly taxing. Go to Full Review

Director Thea Sharrock presents a somewhat predictable but entirely cathartic take on what it really would look like if women ran the world, and it is fine companion viewing for Eléonore Pourriat’s French film I Am Not an Easy Man, on which it’s based. Go to Full Review

The gender politics, much like the French original, are bonkers and alarmingly retro. Go to Full Review

The movie’s broad stereotypes and rudimentary gender satire might have played better in a broad French farce. Go to Full Review

From obvious misogynistic jokes, sex humor, and oddly weird leaps in judgment, Ladies First makes for a film with more awkward silences than laughs. Go to Full Review

Corinne F @RT26935400 1h Funny how most of the bad reviews seem to be coming from men. And 1 stars at that. Why some seem to be taking this so to heart prob. says more about them than they care to admit. I've seen quite a bit of defensiveness. This isn't a documentary - it's a FARCICAL SATIRE, which does of course reflect real-world issues. I for one LOVED it & thought it was fantastic, clever, & hilarious! If you're a woman, it'll likely resonate & if you're the type of man who is somehow unaware of these issues & defines himself as part of or in solidarity with all men in spite of whatever bad behavior they may exhibit, then I guess you may take it personally & feel threatened. Bc how dare women call this stuff out or hold a mirror up 🙄. This movie obviously isn't a comment on ALL men, however it's no secret that we live in a society with male bias & dominance. And sexism & misogyny deplorably still run deep. Bc of this, I actually think as many men as possible should watch it. See more @RT11404957 2h My only problem with this movie is that they made women very manly in this film, but I understand that making them womanly and amazing as we are defeats the humorous aspect of this film. It would basically be like the Barbie movie. I think everything depicted was very basic level of understanding but it’s a comedy so not that bothered by it. Seems dumbed down so even males could understand ! They just switched the genders but in reality women wouldn’t act like men because we aren’t men and that’s the whole point of the inequality between us. But hey, it was a fun watch and Shaw was incredibly entertaining! See more julie J @RT55742867 8h This was both a funny and a challenging watch. Critics might say it lacks subtlety or sophistication, but it really highlights the amount of subconscious nonsense we're exposed to every day through advertising, language, and gender roles that shape how we're expected to see ourselves based on our gender. Yes, it's exaggerated. Yes, many environments are far more evolved. But there's also so much truth in it. We’ve become so accustomed to being portrayed this way that we stopped noticing it—until someone came along and flipped everything upside down. I laughed out loud several times, but at the same time... oof, it stung. I'm not a huge Sacha Baron Cohen fan, and this performance didn't really change that, but Rosamund Pike was excellent, and Fiona Shaw was absolutely brilliant. It would be interesting to know what everyone was paid for appearing in this film—perhaps based on gender. 10/10. Highly recommended! See more Jacob P. @paceyscreek8 9h Way funnier and smarter than I expected. The cast had great chemistry and it kept me entertained the whole time. See more Eseoghene E @RT42429905 10h I don’t think it’s a representative of how women would be if they ran the world. I think it’s more so the fact that a man gets to experience what we experience in the world first hand and how unfair it is. And that’s what people are missing See more Chris T @RT85906111 11h Dreadful! I love SBC but this is woeful. It's a bad remake of the Mel Gibson 'swap' that basically has women behaving exactly the same way as men. I gave up after 30 minutes of this 'comedy', without laughing once! I REALLY can't stress how poor this is, which is a huge shame as I was looking forward to an intelligent, funny film........ this isn't one! See more Read all reviews
