Audience Member Lady Godiva is having an affair with Tom Jones (the literary character, not the singer), and things go south and she's convicted of her husband's murder. She escapes and flees to America, where she ends up in the wild west and is sold into prostitution. Tom Jones shows up and saves the day while Godiva rides around naked on a horse. Stephen C. Apostolof adapts his novel (!!!) "Lady Godiva and Tom Jones" and the results are ... uneven to say the least. This is one of the cheapest cheap-jack productions I have ever seen. It's a bit difficult to maintain any suspension of disbelief when the period settings clearly have linoleum studio floors. On the other hand, this is certainly not dull ... for the most part. There are interminably long sequences of simulated sex, but there's also an amazingly long sequence where sailors party on a ship with British prostitutes and the party involves African tribal drums, topless dancing and a real live gibbon. This is often lumped in with the Apostolof/Ed Wood productions, but Wood really had nothing to do with this film. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
