danny M Incredibly moving and powerful British drama loosely based on a true story. Excellent performance given by Crissy Rock especially being her first acting role in my opinion should've been Oscar-nominated. Very touching and moving story of neglect ,child abuse and the manifestations it has on the walking wounded. Powerful gritty and at times very tender incredible British movie That is also hideously underrated and unknown Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/23/22 Full Review Audience Member Heavy, intense movie, excellent played! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Okay, so that one critic on RT was right, sorta. Ken Loach can indeed be a miserablist at times. This one really put that over the top for me. What a miserable clusterfuck this thing is. No sympathy for this woman. Utter lack of sensible behavior; apparently no real efforts to improve her lot; bearing children she could never support like some breed hog; staying in an insanely abusive relationship which the kids were exposed to, which may in turn affect their own relationships later. Loach doesn't pull punches here, and Rock is great as a dimwitted slag. Seriously, do not let this be your first Loach movie. Watch Riff Raff or Raining Stones, or even Kes. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Excellent! Sparse yet dense at the same time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/18 Full Review Audience Member Chick flick for a later generation... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Based on a true story, this is an extremely difficult film to watch. Crissy Rock is outstanding as the mother persecuted by social services. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Robert Horton Film Comment Magazine This excruciating story is absorbing for much of its running time, even if the sheer hideousness of the situation takes its toll Apr 10, 2018 Full Review James Berardinelli ReelViews Rated: 3.5/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times The woman's name is Maggie, and she is played by a former barmaid and stand-up comic named Crissy Rock who has never acted before. It is the strongest performance in any film of the last 12 months. Rated: 4/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Bob Shelton Birmingham Post Crissy Rock's inspired performance is well worth the price of admission alone. Mar 1, 2024 Full Review Alison Jones Birmingham Mail Rock dominates every scene in a film which makes you feel like screaming at the unfairness of it all. Rated: 3/4 Mar 1, 2024 Full Review John Millar Daily Record (UK) Newcomer Crissy Rock is sensational as the mother at the raw side of life and almost at the end of her tether. And director Ken Loach again proves that he is one of our finest movie makers. Mar 1, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews
