Kate Muir Times (UK) As the Palaces Burn is a documentary on the heavy metal band Lamb of God, and obviously a must for their fans. Jan 2, 2018 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Even if you hate the music, there's much here to impress. Rated: 3/5 Mar 2, 2014 Full Review Geoffrey Macnab Independent (UK) Don Argott's documentary about the heavy-metal band Lamb of God would have been a conventional rock doc if it had not been for a tragic incident at one of the band's concerts in Prague in 2010. Rated: 2/5 Feb 28, 2014 Full Review Tom Watson CineVue Metal music may remain a stigmatised subculture, but As the Palaces Burn proves that there's more tender humanity coursing through its artists and supporters than what the stereotypes imply. Rated: 4/5 Mar 8, 2019 Full Review Jeremy Aspinall Radio Times [A] watchable fly-on-the-wall documentary. paul s This totally unique documentary originally sought to follow Lamb of God on a world tour to tell the story of their fans and their band, but it was abruptly derailed when the lead singer was charged with manslaughter over the death of a fan in Czech Republic. It was a harrowing and unexpected curve ball that hit them while they were having a great time touring. I must say that I would have enjoyed this even if they never ran into the troubling circumstances. I also thought the twist of fate that their lead singer, Randy, had to endure was harrowing and riveting. I don't want to spoil it, but it told a great story and I'm really glad I watched it. I could totally see myself watching this again some day. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A rote if a tad fulfilling doc that shows heavy metal as a universal language that can overcome personal demons. It also shows the power to unite. It's alright. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Wow. Great documentary about the band and the focus on the legal processes with Randy Blythe in the Czech Republic. I suggest this for anyone and everyone. Might change your preconceived notions about metal artists. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member What starts out fairly rudimentary becomes something wholly gripping. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Great story. Average documentary. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Thus continues my theory that metal bands are the all-around nicest people in the world. Solid doc. Really glad things worked out for them.
