Valda R OMG this was a very bad movie. Tight lipped Dustin Hoffman trying to capture the heart of Emma Thompson's character. They had zero rapport. Lots of staring. Stupid time wasting scenes of going up and down stairs, down streets. Not one decent line in it. It was a dud. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/24 Full Review Ted B 4.0 stars; Just what you would expect when you take two excellent performances from top of the class actors (Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson), and a romantic script that was not soapy and cliche, but generated chemistry between two mismatched people. Dustin played a character who could have been a grown-up Benjamin Braddock from "The Graduate". He has nailed that character, which takes a great deal of underplaying the role. Emma is so versatile that she can play any character. In this case, she plays the most unlikely romantic opposite for Dustin.. Yet, she develops a chemistry with him that really works and makes the audience want their relationship to succeed. This was truly, Harvey's last chance in many, many ways. Dustin introduced some clever, yet subtle, comedy aspects to his role. In the end, it turned out to be a neat Romatic, Comedy, Drama. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/13/23 Full Review james b This was really good. I'm a fan of Dustin Hoffman, and Emma Thompson, so it had some points right off the bat. There were some times when I felt like the movie didn't hit home runs where I was expecting it might. Some parts of the movie slowed, and it was hard for it to get back... I thought the scenes from the wedding reception were so good that I ended up giving this a star or two more than if those scenes hadn't been in the movie. It was pretty good... just not memorable. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Found this enjoyable love story on Kanopy. Wonderful acting and score. Once you accept the usual coincidences you can sit back and enjoy the touching moments. Work a look. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review ashley h Last Chance Harvey is a terrific film. It is about a man who finds his romantic spirits lifted by a new woman in his life while in London for his daughter's wedding. Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson give fantastic performances. The screenplay is good but a little slow in places. Joel Hopkins did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the drama and romance. Last Chance Harvey is a must see. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review alex h "Last Chance Harvey" is good, if you are talking about Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson, otherwise this movie does not make you feel anything at all, as of how slow paced it seems, although it has a short runtime and because of how bad the duo of Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson works. I couldn't let my eyes go off the fact how short Hoffman looks compared to Thompson, which is the only thing that made me laugh. The jokes are unfunny and are rather silly and simple, as they are not hard to understand, nor are they relatable. The behavior of the characters is really cliche, it works just like in all other rom-com dramas about realising how one person loves another after years of separation. There is no motives to why they like each other whatsoever. The soundtrack, in the movie, works perfectly though, as it makes the viewer feel good and ease up. I wouldn't say that this movie is good, but I wouldn't say it's bad either. It's alright to watch if you have a lot of free time, if you are a Dustin Hoffman fan or if you just have a need to relax. But, mostly, it is impossible to see Dustin Hoffman in such an easy and empty comedy role, as well as the movie has zero to no humor for a comedy. A 4/10, some people may find something pleasant in it, but I just have seen so many similar movies, that this one just seems to copy all of them in its context, which is why it's not interesting. Nov 14, 2019 Full Review Kelly Jane Torrance Washington Times The romantic comedy tends to be one of the most predictable of genres, but Last Chance Harvey has even fewer surprises than most. What it does offer, though, is the chance to watch a couple of old pros do what they do best - charm us and each other. Rated: 2.5/4 Dec 11, 2018 Full Review Kaleem Aftab The National (UAE) With a deficit of good characters, a poor script and surprisingly weak central performances, Last Chance Harvey is only for those who have run out of options at the multiplex.
