      Critics Consensus

A mostly well-cast caper brightened by colorful characters, Last Looks may not be the most compelling mystery, but it's reasonably compelling in the moment.

Tracina S I think Charlie Hunnam is an excellent actor and he is more concerned with the quality of his roles than the star power attached to them. He is very skilled at molding his characters and any movie he chooses makes me excited to see it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/18/24 Full Review Redbil A To the Guardian reviewer; you knocked the movie cos it had Mel in it? The one guy that's real. While a couple of movie stars got arrested this week for battery etc. How can you judge? Great film watch it everyone. It has Mel Gibson in it, someone who occasionally gets drunk and tells people a few home truths whilst using offensive language. Well that could be anyone of us. However some self righteous hacks have a problem with one of the last great movie stars. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/22/23 Full Review Sam W A quirky and comedic murder investigation full of twists and turns but nowhere near as clever as it could have been. Gibson was really enjoyable hamming it up and Hunnam was a good lead as the reluctant and unconventional ‘hippy' hero. Solid supporting performances and with some of the craziness only LA/the movie industry can deliver, it makes for a light and fun production. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/07/23 Full Review Ba J Decent plot, but disappointingly unspectacular payoff Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/23 Full Review David Y Had the feel of a Hollywood noir, hard-boiled detective mystery set in modern times. Superb performances by a great cast (you will recognize virtually everyone, meaning that any one of them could be a suspect). This movie kept me engaged the entire 2 hours (I didn't once even check my phone). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/01/23 Full Review Le L Love this movie and actor !!! So much ! John Anderson Wall Street Journal Mr. Hunnam is a charismatic center of attention, Ms. Baccarin perhaps more so for some of us, and Mr. Gibson, though doled out sparingly, is deftly funny. Jul 7, 2022 Full Review Danny Leigh Financial Times A passably shaggy genre piece, red herrings tossed about with the wilful eccentricity of a cyclist weaving down an LA freeway. Rated: 3/5 Jun 10, 2022 Full Review Leslie Felperin Guardian Altogether it would be pretty bouncy and fun if it didn’t have the wretched Gibson in it. Rated: 2/5 Jun 7, 2022 Full Review Rebecca Johnson Film Focus Online For its eccentricity, performances and charm it's worth watching on a rainy day, but don't expect it's whodunnit aspect to excel or give anything unique. Rated: 2.5/5 Jul 25, 2023 Full Review Kevin Harley Radio Times Hunnam's easy charm proves pitch-perfect for this kind of breezy PI story, where the ambling investigative journey and its colourful characters matter more than the destination. Rated: 3/5 Feb 16, 2023 Full Review Marshall Shaffer Decider It might not scale the heights of its inspirations, but it’s a modest delight with plenty to offer genre enthusiasts.
