Simon T Very boring Agatha Christie pastiche (scripted by Stephen Sondheim and Anthony Perkins), centering on a games playing tycoon (Coburn) who invites a bunch of chums on to his yacht in the South of France in order to expose a few secrets. Herbert Ross directs dreamily, the performances are half-hearted, the whole thing is shapeless and irritating. Spot the number of times the cast look at the camera. A TV Film of the Week, deservedly forgotten. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/15/24 Full Review Steve D Too dated and slow to work. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/03/23 Full Review j f It kind of annoyed me for some reason Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/24 Full Review Kevin P The murder-mystery movie against which all others are judged. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Rahul M Rian Johnson has been mentioning this in all the 'Glass Onion' Q&A's. And when folks like Johnson, Edgar Wright, etc. tell you to watch a movie, you just shut-up and watch that movie. P.S: Stephen Sondheim and Anthony Perkins should have collaborated and written more of these! <3 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/15/22 Full Review zee d Iconic film that deserves to be talked about way more as Knives Out would likely not exist without this masterpiece! Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times A devilishly complicated thriller of superior class. Rated: 3.5/4 Oct 23, 2004 Full Review Michael Clark Epoch Times Regardless, watching a cast of (then) Hollywood A-listers playing spoiled D-list brats getting what-fer in a foreign land will give many viewers cause to snicker and revel in seeing them receive their just desserts. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 8, 2023 Full Review Trace Thurman Horror Queers Podcast Stephen Sondheim and Anthony Perkins (yes, those ones) have crafted an exceptionally clever (and bitchy) murder mystery. Tons of fun! Rated: 4/5 Dec 28, 2022 Full Review Joe Lipsett Horror Queers Podcast An overly complicated "murder" mystery filled with reprehensible rich people. What's not to love? Credit Perkins and Sondheim for crafting such a bitchy, fun ride. Rated: 3.5/5 Dec 22, 2022 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Once you get to what matters – good characters, good concept, good storytelling – the movie sparkles. Rated: 4.5/5 Aug 23, 2022 Full Review Eve Tushnet Patheos The result is a deliciously nasty little bonbon, glossily and showily directed by Herbert Ross. May 23, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
