F. Scott (Richard Chamberlain) and Zelda Fitzgerald (Blythe Danner) return from Europe emotionally and financially depleted. Despite being 30, Zelda develops a fixation on becoming a ballerina, while Scott, bereft of ideas, drinks and carouses. Eventually he decides to write a fictional account of how he met Zelda while stationed in the Deep South during World War I. As the story progresses, Scott hopes the book will somehow prove to be the thing that resuscitates his ailing marriage.
