Catherine Bray Guardian It’s encouraging to see low-budget early-career film-making with ambition. Rated: 3/5 Sep 16, 2024 Full Review Alexandra Heller-Nicholas AWFJ.org Last Straw is as much about the journey as it is the destination, and there’s a genuine feeling of delight as protagonist Nancy’s night from hell takes us to places its otherwise seemingly generic set-up might not prepare us for. Oct 23, 2023 Full Review Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting The siege horror is effective, and Neal’s assured grasp on the tricky narrative framing makes for an engaging debut. Rated: 3/5 Oct 17, 2023 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …Last Straw is a bracingly brutal little indie thriller…an over-performing little indie that’s tough and original enough to pass muster in a crowded marketplace… Rated: 4/5 Nov 14, 2024 Full Review Lee Zumpe Tampa Bay Newspapers The film is almost post-apocalyptic in tone: The fact that a minor confrontation can quickly spiral into an epic exhibition of rage and butchery is indicative of a breakdown in the social order. Oct 28, 2024 Full Review Rick Bentley KGET-TV (Bakersfield, CA) “Last Straw” finds its scares in a different way and that is a blessing in a world where most tales of terror are very traditional. Lou M Bit rubbish really. Average story, average filming, effects are ok but not really worth the effort. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/08/24 Full Review Claire K Nancy is an icon. Slay (literally). Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review Dirk P This is one of the better thriller's I've seen in a while. It feels like a crime thriller with horror elements. I think the hate I'm reading here is that the movie offers something unique and forces people to think and pushes them out of their comfort zone of what these kinds of movies should be. Also the lead actress is pretty fantastic - we need more female characters that won't suffer a fool. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review Enea K The trailer was intriguing, while the movie was an extreme let down. It fails to do what it intended, and instead provides a dull, repetitive and predictable plot. The only satisfying aspect was the leads acting range, cause besides that, there is not much more to like. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/21/24 Full Review Daniel L Two stars because of how competently this little indie flick is for the majority of its run time. It's a movie that, with some slightly different choices, could have been pretty great. But its shaky second act leads to a ridiculous third act, where we're supposed to be able to believe that, hey, an Inch or two of rotting meat is basically body armor that can save your life when you get stabbed by a 9" knife. No. Nope. Nah uh. No way. I don't care how indie and low budget your movie is, you can do better than that. If you have a gun on the wall in the first act, the results of the gun going off need to be within the realm of possibility. It's the kind of choice that ruins the rest of the movie on its own. But then the unsympathetic heroine goes and makes one of the most unbelievable choices after she survives via rotting meat magic armor. And like...dude...sepsis. She's a goner. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/14/24 Full Review christina b Really nice little film one of those why-the-fuck-did-all-of-this-had-to-happen, so much unnecessary killing … also girls instincts dead on, dads instincts dead off Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review Read all reviews
