Critics Consensus

The Last Unicorn lacks the fluid animation to truly sparkle as an animated epic, but offbeat characters and an affecting story make it one of a kind for the true believers.

The Last Unicorn will endure as a film for reasons both intellectual and aesthetic. It's full of rich ideas and revisions of outdated, sexist stereotypes, and thereby feels more modern than many animated classics. Go to Full Review

The Last Unicorn represents a rare example of an animated kids' pic in which the script and vocal performances outshine the visuals. Go to Full Review

The heavy-hoofed red bull and an interlude in which the unicorn is conscripted into a traveling circus alongside a harpy are so visually striking and wordlessly monstrous that they’ll lodge themselves in your gray matter forever. Go to Full Review

Anonymous 2 Sep 12 It's a good movie, solid plot, magical, good graphics for when it was made, and defiantly interesting. It is a little slow in some parts, but a good movie nonetheless. Defiantly recommend for any unicorn lover. See more Kitkat M Sep 1 This movie is so beautiful. It brings tears to my eyes to rewatch it, remembering when I saw it for the first time at a younger age. I can't deny it sparks a sort of "magical" feeling in my heart. I met a girl years ago - Sara. We were going to watch it together, but we lost touch before we could. I miss her, and I hope to cross paths again so maybe we can watch this together. Miss you, Sara! Watching this again reminded me of a friendship that sadly drifted through distance and loss of communication, similar to the beautiful unicorn separated from her friends. The power of this movie carries on! There just isn’t another animated movie like it. See more Read all reviews
