Audience Member Slow, cringeworthy movie about two confused men who are basically shallow and pathetic. Difficult to feel any empathy. Basically a waste of time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/22/21 Full Review Audience Member Sometimes the best films are low budget because they seem to focus more on developing the characters. This movie was true to form. Many of us can relate to the struggles we face in our relationships with Lazy Eye. Good to watch well thought out gay films. Highly recommended. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/01/18 Full Review Audience Member I am now adding this somewhere at the top of my queer cinema favorites I love to revisit from time to time. The film is not exactly your feel good pick me up but it is just the right blend of sexy and funny and emotional, lovingly captured with the beautiful landscape backdrop that is the Mojave Desert. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A realistic portrayal of the type of relationship many have had. Initially I wasn't expecting much at all (other than a short film to kill the time while waiting for a plane). After a view I was pleasantly surprised. In the end this movie is really just about love had, love lost, love maturity, life changes and leaning what is truly important. Critically speaking I was disappointed the relationship back story of the characters wasn't developed a bit more. It seemed rather vague and shallow at times. Another issue I had was emphasis of "middle age" by the two main characters in their late thirties. Based on the initial trailer I was set for characters around a more mature middle age of fifty. The actors and plot play it well but for me being in my late thirties still being quite explorative. Maybe I was expecting more of a contemporary relationship mirror than a film on this point? In event, as a package, I really enjoyed the feature, the story, actors, and setting. It's a real story that's contemplative, emotional and worth seeing again. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member I must admit that I kept resisting watching Lazy Eye based on the blurb but as it kept insistently appearing in my recommended movies to watch list; I decided to give it a go and after seeing it, I must say that I am very glad that I did. The movie is very well written and excellently acted, and I would daresay it is in my top 10 of movies to see. While it does at times seem like a play on film - that is never a bad thing for me. The setting is beautiful and frames the events and characters very well throughout the movie. As a gay man in my 50s - and having been gay my whole life with relationships spanning every decade from my teens to my current marriage to my spouse/partner of 22 years; I found many moments in the movie that resonated with me. From serious drama to lighthearted moments that all ring true and real-to-life; this is the kind of gay film-making that I find interesting and satisfying to watch. I can only endure so many coming-of-age and coming -out movies no matter how well they are done so this was a very pleasant change. This is a great movie about life, about love - past and present - and about individual choices, actions and closures. Highly recommended. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member The locations are certainly pretty, and lots of amusement with the meticulous crotch-masking. Some of those moments are almost Austin Powers-worthy. But Kirkman's characters are not the least bit distinctive. Tedious Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Katie Walsh Los Angeles Times Sexy and emotional. Dec 22, 2016 Full Review Danny Bowes Village Voice Lazy Eye satisfies the same aesthetic desire as a chamber drama for the stage, while being told through a precisely controlled naturalism that's entirely cinematic. Nov 11, 2016 Full Review Chris Klimek NPR Lazy Eye is less a will-they-or-won't-they than a will-it-stick-this-time-and-why-didn't-it-before. Mostly, it's an an are-we-the-same-people-we-were-then. Nov 10, 2016 Full Review Ben Turner The Pink Lens The film feels like an elaborate therapy session, where its protagonist is hell-bent on "finding himself", even if he doesn't know that "himself" is what he is looking for. Rated: 3/5 Sep 2, 2021 Full Review Alexander Ryll Gay Essential Though this film only features the two main characters for most scenes, Kirkman's script in Lazy Eye contains enough movement to maintain direction and deliver up a few surprises.
