In 1910 at Sorel, Québec, an unknown man shows up at an agricultor's house, looking for work. The agricultor accepted this mysterious man who impressed the villagers by his ardor for work and his recitals of his many voyages around the world. A young celibate woman Angelina in the village falls in love with Le Survenant but this enrages Odilon in jealousy, for he felled in love with Angelina, also wishes to marry her.
