Simon Foster sbs.com.au First-time director Philippe Guillard's Jo's Boy is a sweet and unashamedly sentimental lark of little consequence. Mar 1, 2012 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Presented at the Virginia French Film Festival as a "simple" movie, with a rather straightforward scenario and simple direction, Le fils à Jo transcends the television screen for which it was originally made and finds itself belonging firmly on the silver screen. Indeed, simple but very much a story of the complexities of life which in it of itself is not all that simple. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member It's good to see a bad French movie once in a while just to get some perspective. Nothing really terrible about this movie. Just that it's cliched, contrived, vacuous, banal and sentimental, very much like the cheap English comedies like Billy Elliot or Brassed Off. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Philippe Guillard... excellent Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Un film assez mineur si on ne comptait que le côté technique de l'oeuvre (montage, effets, musique, plans...).
