AMC at Times Square had the wrong movie. I went to see a movie with Ben Foster, but they showed a Boys Scout documentary instead... It was interesting but it's not what I intended to go see or what was advertised.

Leave No Trace is a small, quiet and restrained film that moves slowly and can feel heavy at times if you expect obvious emotional payoffs. Its strength lies elsewhere: in minimal gestures, shared looks, and the delicate bond between a father and daughter living on the margins of society. The film observes its characters with patience, without judgment or over-explanation, trusting the viewer to read what is left unsaid. Thomasin McKenzie is outstanding, showing a natural growth and quiet strength that immediately stands out, while Ben Foster brings a contained intensity that is always close to breaking. Directed with great sensitivity by Debra Granik, the setting, silences and rhythm become part of the story itself. It is not an easy or crowd-pleasing film, but it is deeply honest and leaves a lasting impression, like a farewell spoken softly.
