Panos Kotzathanasis Asian Movie Pulse "Legend of the Wolf" has a number of issues, in terms of both writing and direction, but the action part compensates largely, in essence emerging as the only reason to watch the film, particularly if you do not enjoy seeing Yen's biceps so often. Marco A. D Not bad, but not good either. The bad acting is the least of it in a martial arts movie, but the soundtrack is awful and annoying. As for the fights, it is very good but there are too many camera cuts that do not allow to enjoy them. The “action” should be filmed, not edited. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/29/24 Full Review Audience Member Donnie Yen's Directorial Debut Is A Martial Arts Drama, Based Just After The Japanese Occupation of China. This Film Is Slow Methodical And Wonderfully Choreographed. The Whole 90's Bookends Wasn't Needed In My Opinion. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Working with a shoestring budget, Donnie Yen still makes quite an impression as first time-director with Legend Of The Wolf, but almost exclusively on a technical level. The future Ip Man-impersonator sure knows his way around the action parts of the movie, and manages some creative shots of himself showing off in a wide range of styles. But the plot soon peters out into melodramatic oblivion, including a few ill-advised love scenes, until there's only the thrill of well-choreographed violence left. And that ain't so bad, actually. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member cool movie, Donnie Yen is the fastes martial artist actor Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member A decent storyline and great action choreography is ruined by some bad camera work and choppy editing. The movie's only real good part is the action climax. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Yen should be ashamed. Yes he should.
