This impressionistic film reconstructs "The Middle Passage," the dangerous and cruel boat journey that transported slaves from Africa to the New World to be sold off. Narrator Maka Kotto provides the only dialogue, narrating from the perspective of a slave on a four-month voyage alongside 600 other people. The camera shows the filthy conditions below deck, from the cramped space to the rats, while dead bodies are regularly tossed overboard as the ship sails on.

Audience Member A poetic take on the painful history of Vietnam from the 1860s to April 1975. It should be compulsory viewing for our politicians but I'm sure it's irrelevant to their concerns. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
