Peter Keough Boston Globe It takes a lot of confidence for a director to pay homage to John Ford's "The Searchers" (1956), and in the case of Thomas Bidegain's "Les Cowboys" it is not altogether unwarranted. Rated: 3/4 Jul 28, 2016 Full Review Christopher Kompanek Washington Post Bidegain and cinematographer Arnaud Potier speak multitudes with wide-angle, slow-panning shots that immerse us in a post-9/11 quagmire that's never less than utterly personal. Rated: 3.5/4 Jun 30, 2016 Full Review Bill Goodykoontz Arizona Republic "Les Cowboys" keeps you off-kilter from the start. Rated: 4/5 Jun 30, 2016 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies It can be a bit clunky especially with its use of time lapses and setting changes. But if you’re able to navigate those storytelling hurdles “Les Cowboys” gives you plenty of emotional meat to chew on. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 23, 2022 Full Review David Bax Battleship Pretension It delivers a familiar genre tale while simultaneously diffusing and dissecting its meaning. With its sudden plot turns and jumps in time, the film is something of a melodramatic mini-epic that is also an arthouse provocation. Jan 6, 2021 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills [Les Cowboys] developed a similar plot hook to ultimately devastating, near-epic effect... Nov 10, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Fascinating and unexpected take on Taken, as well as the Searchers. Tennessee Waltz is haunting. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautifully shot and well paced, showcasing a wide mix of culture, diversity, religion, closure and love. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member So I'll admit, I've never seen the older movie all the critics refer to in their reviews, so I just saw this movie for what it is -- a great movie. The movie draws you in with a challenging story of a man looking for his runaway daughter. I loved the exploration of two very different worlds - the cowboys and the new Indians or the middle east. Great backdrops, scenes, suspenseful with some twists, Les Cowboys builds characters and a story that leaves an everlasting impression on the mind. I found myself relating to multiple characters in the movie and I wasn't alone. The theater was filled with people crying and walking away from the movie exclaiming to their popcorn munching partners that this was indeed a great movie. This might be the best movie and certainly the best western I've seen since No Country for Old Men. Don't listen to the haters who feel the need to compare, this movie is excellent on its own merits. I would recommend seeing it in theaters and renting the DVD every once in a while from your local library. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
