Penelope Gilliatt New Yorker Its characters have ignoble goals, its plot is a sorry mixture of the shocking and the facetious, and its author seems to have mislaid most of his sense of small-town drama in an exhibition of metropolitan knowingness and boulevard melodrama. Audience Member (***): One of Chabrol's weaker films, but I still found it to be interesting and well-acted. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Um dos melhores do Chabrol. Mais uma vez a história de um casamento fracassado, sempre com a Stéphane Audran fingindo que está tudo em perfeita ordem. É um filme de roteiro envolvente e ótimas atuações. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member In "Les noces rouges" we get involved with Lucienne and Pierre (Stà (C)phane Audran and Michel Piccoli), who begins an affair in spite of being married both of them. The couple do not have sex with their own husband and wife as they are impotent and sick, so it seems a little less cruel as we gradually get more sympathy towards the two characters. However, the things both Lucienne, and especially Pierre, do gets more and more horrifying and leaves us with only one character that seems to be profoundly good - the Lucienne's daughter, Hà (C)lène. The movie is political, witty and a critisme of the bourguise. And even though "Les noces rouges" seems pretty conventionel at first it contains quite a lot I think. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Um dos melhores do Chabrol. Mais uma vez a história de um casamento fracassado, sempre com a Stéphane Audran fingindo que está tudo em perfeita ordem. É um filme de roteiro envolvente e ótimas atuações. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Though it finally takes itself a little too seriously and ends rather perfunctorily, for the most part this comedy - about an increasingly flagrant extramarital affair which results in a double murder - is delightfully entertaining. It does take a few satirical sideswipes at corrupt politicians, which no doubt contributed to the film's temporary ban in France, but "Les Noces Rouges" works best as a simple, unpretentious bed-hopping farce. I, for one, never need much of an excuse to look at Stéphane Audran, or the Citroën DS, for that matter, however Jean Rabier's lovely autumnal photography is certainly a bonus. The film also boasts a splendidly mournful, Bernard Herrmann-esque score by Pierre Jansen. Acting honours go to Audran and Claude Piéplu, as her slimy, chain-smoking, cuckolded husband. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Tight and fantastic Chabrol Thriller where nothing is as Straightforward as it looks with more twists and turns than an alpine road. Here again as in so many of his films Chabrol picks and probes at French Village life and uncovers infidelity and Murder at its Heart. During the 70s Chabrol made a string of these films which are well worth catching up with if you get a chance Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
