Andrea Gronvall Chicago Reader An example of documentary at its most aspirational. Mar 11, 2020 Full Review Kevin Crust Los Angeles Times "Letter From Masanjia" is a bracing reminder of our sometimes blindered approach to globalization and the effects of simple actions. Sep 13, 2018 Full Review Ken Jaworowski New York Times It's an important story, made more intense by its tight focus. Sep 13, 2018 Full Review Guillem Martinez Oya Cinematismo An interesting look at the capitalism system and its consequences. The power of a gesture; of a letter. A great documentary. Rated: 6/10 Nov 1, 2018 Full Review Adam Keller Film Threat Sun Yi's stoicism is admirable and moving, but it's his ex-wife Fu Ning's tearful recollection of their separation that cements the story in your mind. Long N It's eye-opening and made me see that I've taken peace and freedom for granted. The bravery of this man Sun Yi has inspired me to be more courageous and stay true to my values and beliefs. Seeing this is absolutely worth it for me! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Deeply moving, incredible story of human perseverance and will. This is absolutely a must watch, to honor the experience of all persecuted peoples in China. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Not sure if or when it got distribution but I saw it last March at Sebastopol Doc Film Festival and thought it was a really wonderful movie. More than a little 'hard on the heart' to discover the depth of brutality of the Chinese government at the time that this film was made. It was not a small feat to get this footage out of China and into the hands of the Canadian editor. Well made, edifying, shocking, engaging, sad! It fits my parameters for a truly satisfying documentary film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member An interesting story and worth the rental. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member What a sad film. Couldn't help but feel for Sun Yi. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/31/18 Full Review Audience Member The bravery and heart it took to make this film is astounding. I hope that tells you something about the story itself - tense, nerve-shattering, Sun Yi's modest kindness and good heart makes his torture and mistreatment at the hands of China's authorities. All for his spritual beliefs? This doc is one of the best I've ever seen in my life. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
