Audience Member Hard to believe, but this is my 300th Post! A new milestone .When i started blogging in late 2003, i didn't really expect to write for so long. I'm now looking forward to post my 400th post. Feb 15 was Total Defence Day (yes, i'm talking about Feb 15 instead of 14 cos my Valentine's Day is nonexsistant. Or least i choose not to think abt it.) Now, this means just one thing when you are in the army- Propaganda overload! In the morning, there was a brainwashing session at the audi to extoll the importance of the SAF, etc, etc. Then, we were "invited"( in other words forced to go even if you don't want to.) to Suntec City for a TD exhibition. Now, the exhibition was lame. Seriously, the whole place was crowded with screaming, screeching schoolkids that makes it irritating. Then there were lame Neopets characters in costumes that are lame looking but the kids just suck it up. We reached there early, and went for chow at Burger King. Then we hung around to wait for the attendance taker to show up. Once we showed our face and had attendance taken, i left so quickly you couldn't see my trail. This exhibition, in addition to being lame, was an utter waste of time. The only good side effect was that i managed to book out a few hours earlier that day. Libera Me (2000) Um, its a Korean Firefighting movie. What else do you need to know? If you've seen backdraft, Ladder 49 etc, you've seen them all. This time, we have a crazed arsonist playing cat and mouse with our team of heroic firefighters. Yawn. WHat else is new? First 25 mins: The movie starts with a wham bam fire sequence almost immediately after a short prologue. The entire sequence lasts almost 20 mins, and you would have thought that it would be a kick ass start, right? Wrong. Even though the fire sequence is well done, w/o any use of CGI, the fact is watching some fireman "battle" some fire for almost 20mins is dreadfully boring. If it had been shortened to say 7 to 10 mins ut might have been platable but the fact is that the fire sequence is not half as exciting enough to warrant or justify the 20 mins sequence. Which just bores you to hell. 25th min to about 40th min: some attempt at character development, more intro to our resident psycho arsonist, and a new dud joins the firefighting team. 45th until the time i stopped watching: Up next is Big Fire Sequence Part 2, the attack of the Gas station. Predictably, a gas station is our arsonist's next target. The fireman are routed as its sorta like a trap. The wannabe cool guy arsonist enacts his diabolical plans with a cigarette that is supposed to look cool, but isn't. The viewer doesn't really know how the arsonist did it. Nor does the viewer know wtf is happening, just that the fireman are getting their asses kicked. The fireman for their part, look so similar with their prettyboy Korean look that i am finding it hard to distinguish one guy from the other. Anyway, bored as hell by the movie, i decide to go sleep and stop watching at this point. Maybe the film gets better but i doubt it. While the directing was actually quite good, the fire sequences are unfortunately not at all compelling. This also goes to show that yours truly hates generic firefighting flicks. It's exciting, tense and gripping. The fire set-pieces are amazing to watch.
