Audience Member Gu Changwei picks up a thematic thread from his sensational debut Peacock and spins another part bleak, part hopeful tale about cultural suffocation and inhibition in eighties China, featuring the same gorgeous imagery laden with symbolism, plus some added dry humour to see us through. With it's stellar cast, including Jiang Wenli in a carreer defining act of physical and spiritual transformation, And The Spring Comes puts Gu in lead position among contemporary Chinese filmmakers. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Jiang Wenli as an ugly mid-30's lady with a terribly good voice, her low self-esteem has ruined every relationships with her peers. Nice story. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This is the second master piece of Gu Changwei after his Peacock. A story about how dream dies.
