Diego Semerene Slant Magazine For a moment you wonder, or hope, that this will be a film entirely shot in Second Life. Rated: 2/4 Jun 3, 2011 Full Review Mike Hale New York Times "Life 2.0" would have been more interesting and original if it, like its subjects, had dwelled more in the virtual world, and if it had told us more about that world's mechanics and folkways. Rated: 3/5 May 19, 2011 Full Review Nick Schager Village Voice At once a disturbing vision of escape, a cautious portrait of liberation, and an exploration of authenticity and artificiality, it's a documentary that trades not in absolutes but unsettling ambiguity. May 17, 2011 Full Review John Gholson Cinematical Life 2.0 cuts deep into its subject of with laser precision, getting right to the emotional heart of the matter, exploring a problem no one had to deal with even ten years ago, in a fascinating and very human way. Feb 10, 2012 Full Review Cynthia Fuchs Nitrate Online As Life 2.0 reveals layers of life and experience, you realize that they are not confined to Second Life. These interview subjects describe their experiences, in both Second Life and what they call First Life, that is, Real Life. May 12, 2010 Full Review Peter Keough Boston Phoenix Not so much a documentary of an Internet phenomenon as a deconstruction of 21st-century culture, Jason Spingarn-Koff's unsettling film explores the online game Second Life, in which players create avatars to live in a virtual world. Landon J It does its designed purpose. Cover the lives of these complete weirdo gamers who are disturbed to the point they are living the majority of their actual lifetime hours in a virtual game. And show the audience how they act on their game. Like one man who speaks of his avatar character as if its a separate live being (which he plays in the role of a teenage girl in his virtual game). This addicted gamer man later pledges to his fiancee he is quitting the video game permanently ,but then backs up on his promise and then dumps her for the video game. He then returns to his video game in the character of a litttle boy he creates for himself........( Totally CREEPY ). What it doesn't cover is some things like a psychologists analysis of it and effects on health when you aren't sleeping and gaming through the night. The Video game designers thoughts aren't much covered. Essentially its just a follow of a few creepy people who aren't quite all there upstairs and are addicted to a Sims type videogame called "Second Life". They all have some true psychological issues it appears and addictive personalities. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/18/21 Full Review Audience Member Life 2.0 doesn't explore all the territory of its subject matter, but nevertheless brings up many good points about the dangers of cybernetic worlds. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Sad people living sad lives in a sad documentary. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Weird and not really relevant to those of us who do not live in "virtual" worlds. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member A fascinating look at some really messed up people with problems dealing with the real world. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Creepy as shit. It tries to demoralize gaming which is kind of stupid but a very well done documentary.
