Phillip B I have watched this film quite often and at different ages growing up. Its a masterful piece. Honestly better that Fantastic Planet and really wish more people invested in other animation styles. Like this, ill also point out that his other film Time Masters is again a better film than Fantastic Planet. Watch this film if you have any love of unique and interesting independent ideas. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/30/22 Full Review Audience Member Why does this POS have a 71% audience approval rating? Why can't I give it 0 stars? The actors voices sound bored, the nudity is useless, the "main villain" looks like a glans instead of a brain, the sex scene (thankfully not shown on screen) is un called for and the conflict resolution is nonsensical & unsatisfying. Please avoid this movie at all costs Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review evil i This film is thoroughly enjoyable. The films largest success is in the creation of the world and more than just a cursory exploration. While the story by itself is nothing remarkable, it does a good job to connect emotionally with the viewer. The American voice acting is excellent. The animation style is stylized and appealing. A more complete and compelling effort to that of Fantastic Planet. The film is highly worth seeking out. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member You have to remember it was made in the 80s to get past the rough animation and the corny moments but its truly an underrated film. From the same animator that made Fantastic Planet. Its captivating and smart. Watching is like revisiting a lost childhood memory. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member What a fascinating film in all the bad ways. I can give a back handed compliment about effort and vision, but I no better than to compliment obtuseness. But this film is peeking my fascination with the post-Heavy-Metal-magazine aesthetic of science fiction that tries to confuse people into enlightenment. This is a must watch for any animation or bad movie fan as it is beautiful enough to keep you wondering "Wait, what did the giant jello say? Why does she have wings on her head?". Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review david l With fascinating, authentic and riveting story, mature tone, superb world building and absolutely breathtaking and truly artistic animation with a lot of care and evident detail, Gandahar is not only well crafted due to its amazing technical aspects but also wonderfully imagined thanks to its stellar script and it is undoubtedly one of the most underrated and shamefully forgotten animated films of all time. Anton Bitel Projected Figures Ren Lalouxs animated time-skewing utopian fantasy is unapologetically strange, aesthetically arresting and deeply cerebral Mar 9, 2022 Full Review Ard Vijn ScreenAnarchy A very enjoyable film to watch. Maybe not as classic or creepy as "La Planète Sauvage" but it can safely be called a companion piece to that movie.
