Christy Lemire RogerEbert.com At once unintentionally hilarious and borderline reprehensible, and it’s the closest approximation to the disaster of “The Room” since Tommy Wiseau’s cult favorite first graced arthouse theaters over 20 years ago. SkyRo P “Like Father, Like Son” is a gripping thriller featuring Dermot Mulonroy as a father who commits murder in front of his son, targeting a bully. The son, played by a lesser-known actor, becomes pivotal to the narrative when he reports his father to the police, leading to the father’s arrest. Despite his crucial role, the son has minimal screen time and is primarily there to complement McDermott’s star power. The film explores the theme of inherited traits, suggesting that the son may also possess a latent propensity for violence, hinting at a disturbing legacy of murder that could extend to his younger sibling, thus presenting the notion of three generations touched by brutality. As for the direction, it’s passable, though I found the shaky camera work quite disorienting, leaving me feeling nauseous. The production quality reflects a low-budget approach, evident in some aspects, but it’s not so poorly done that it feels unwatchable. Overall, while the film has its moments of intrigue and entertainment, it’s not something I would choose to watch again. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/22/25 Full Review Bonnie S This movie was AMAZING in so many ways! I loved the story...and the ENDING WAS SO GRIPPING! I felt every emotion under the sun. There was shock, horror, disgust, humor, irony, realism, terror, and yes, even, fun! The music was fabulous and interspersed exactly at the right moments. The acting was nothing short of fabulous - the entire cast was sensational! The directing was great, the lighting was perfect. It was quiet yet loud. And the message was loud and clear. It touched my heart in many places and I wanted to watch it again as soon as it ended! Not my usual genre of film, I saw it with a friend and I was hooked from the start. I can't wait for the sequel - will there be a sequel? I sure hope so!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/25 Full Review K U Dire. Worthless in every possible way.
