W S I love Lilo & Stitch! The songs are so beautiful. Even after all this time the animation looks amazing! so beautiful with watercolor painted backgrounds. The movie is funny, emotional, and charming. Lilo is the best child character in ANY media; she's emotional, funny, weird and vulnerable. Her relationship with those around her are so real, Nani is a relatable character who is trying her best and her struggling to play a parental role to her sister is so sweet and you can understand why she's so stressed, between having to care for a little kid, herself, pay the bills, show the social worker she is able to take care of her sister, losing her parents, and STILL Nani get's her sister an emotional support "dog" because she knows Lilo is lonely and wants a friend. All the characters are great, the animation is beautiful and so is the music, the voice actors are amazing and I'll be re-watching this movie for years to come. The studio's films often found themselves in the shadow of their younger, sleeker sister studio, Pixar. The films that Pixar released during this era are instantly recognizable, while almost all of the films that Disney's original animation studio produced during this era faded into obscurity, forgotten instantly by a fast-changing world. There is, however, one definitive exception. Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, grossing $273 million against a budget of $80 million, and spawning a years-long media franchise that is still well-remembered to this day, the film Lilo & Stitch (2002) is a gem that shines brightly within Disney's lost decade. Lilo & Stitch is, of course, written so that kids may enjoy it, but underneath the family-friendly veneer are unexpectedly dark themes of existentialism, grief, and socioeconomic hardship that are clearly also targeted towards older audiences.
