Critics Consensus

Although its script is uneven, Neil Burger directs Limitless with plenty of visual panache, and Bradley Cooper makes for a charismatic star.

Keith Uhlich Time Out Every generation gets its Boiler Room. Rated: 2/5 Aug 9, 2023 Full Review Kimber Myers The Playlist Paradoxically absorbing, yet cliched and empty, this power-based New York story is a bit of an entertaining thrill ride, probably far more popcorn-engrossing than it deserves to be... Rated: C+ Aug 15, 2013 Full Review Philip French Guardian [An] ingenious, extremely violent thriller... Mar 28, 2011 Full Review Yasser Medina Cinefilia Its science fiction premise about the enhanced drug has a gripping start, but it never breaks its limits and loses the dose of suspense when it frequents common places that, as a side effect, make it terribly dull. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 5/10 May 11, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Limitless is frustrating because there are plenty of compelling ideas at work here, but they’re dumbed down by a screenplay that isn’t capable of being as intelligent as its central character. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 31, 2023 Full Review James Croot Stuff.co.nz Although somewhat limited by the story and, noticeably, the budget, the boundless enthusiasm of its star stops any dullness setting in. A. M WOW. This film has it all...you know... visually stunning... fantastic acting...superb directing... soundtrack is even great. The character arcs are all over the place, which in this case it totally works. Watch it. You won't be sorry. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review Jim P Think of The Matrix, but with letters instead of numbers. Then add Wall Street and a dash of The Dead Zone. It's a hotpot of great movies! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review Edgar M Me gusta mucho esta película. Puedo verla mil veces y se disfruta cada vez más. Gran interpretación por parte de Bradley. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/25 Full Review Jeff S To my surprise, this was a really great movie! Interesting story, not super predictable, and the directing and cinematography was quite good at getting us into the main character's mind and experience while he was on NZT 💊 Also, who doesn't love bradley cooper?? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/13/25 Full Review Jelisije J A drug that increases a person intelligence, but when you lose that drug you die........not a movie where a character learns a lesson, but really about a journey of a man battling life and succeeding in it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/25 Full Review Zy S This movie was fun to watch back when "the brain only uses 20% of it's potential" misleading myth was still widely accepted. It's now known that the brain uses 100% of itself, just never at the same time, in the same way you don't contract all your muscles at the same time as hard as you can. The movie wasn't really consistent with it's meter on how realistic it wanted to be. It tapped into this idea of a pill that offered borderline superpower capabilities, yet still wanted to be a realistic drug. The movie made the pill too powerful for it's own "realistic meter". The cohesion of the movie didn't really work. You have this super pill that can make you rich... then why would you go about selling it and spread awareness of it and only complicate your own situation? There needed to be a better introduction of NZT, such as Eddie being close friends with his dealer from the start and the dealer just magically discovering the formula. The powers should have been a little more conservative. And they glamorized it too much. It almost seemed like the movie wanted to show the cons of certain stimulants while simultaneously showing the appeal to starting them... and then just forgoing the cons all together and ending it off with the main character retaining all his success. Like I said, if a pill is so powerful to the point it can make you rich and you can actually retain the riches why would you sell it, share it, and why would you stop it? That being said, still very entertaining movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/01/25 Full Review Read all reviews
