Ty Burr Ty Burr's Watch List (Substack) "Liquid Sky" is a gonzo comedy, a solarized downtown farce set in the wee hours just before the sun came up on Ronald Reagan's morning in America. Rated: 3.5/4 Jun 11, 2024 Full Review Derek Malcolm Guardian The film is a melange of electric theatre, parody, caricature and mock-seriousness. It works well if you let it. Some might not bother. But I rather liked it. Aug 20, 2021 Full Review Eleanor Ringel Cater Atlanta Journal-Constitution This film doesn't give a Day-Glo damn about making sense, but in its own deadpan, punked-out way, it's quite funny. Jun 9, 2021 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ...the costumes are wild, the NYC club scene is well caught, and the print on Amazon Prime is surprisingly good; if you’ve never heard of it, broad-minded viewers will always find something outré in this weird and occasionally wonderful film. Rated: 3/5 Jan 23, 2024 Full Review Rob Gonsalves Rob's Movie Vault Its post-punk callousness gives it an irreverent kick. Rated: A- Dec 1, 2022 Full Review Cindy Patton Gay Community News (Boston) The film does not permit despair or inaction. Rather, it begs a wry laugh and the courage to change our world against all odds. Sep 13, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Henry W Excellent indy film. Oozes NYC 1983 vibes like no other film. Shot on credit cards - what it lacks in technique, it makes up for in being completely weird and darkly comic. The first film to have a soundtrack made using digital synthesis (a Fairlight IIx they used at Public Access Sound Studio). The soundtrack is excellent. The scientist and shrimp lady subplot I found tedious and got in the way of the real story in the apartment. Still, it's brilliant and some of the scenes are truly iconic, esp. the ones with Paula Shepherd. She's a huge character in a tiny body. Anne Carlisle is cooler and does an amazing job playing two parts, she also gets points. The rest of the cast is mostly forgettable while making some brilliantly funny scenes. Required Viewing. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/18/24 Full Review Huge Chrome P An incomprehensible drug addled mess. Despite it's good qualities it's lack of a cohesive narrative and unlikable cast puts a huge damper on the entertainment one can derive from Liquid Sky. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Liquid Sky warrants repeated viewings to understand and appreciate. I absolutely hated it on my first viewing, but was taken by the beautiful shots of the city and the neon signs that decorate the heroine's apartment, so I watched it again. The dialogue also intrigued and amused me, and I ended up watching it four times in a weekend. Now, it is one of my favorites of all-time. Prepare yourself for the fact that the lead character will be subjected to sexual violence; it is critical to her story. It's now 40 years since the movie was filmed...it captures an interesting point in time in New York where its sex and drugs culture is subjected to a twisted science fiction experience. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member The characters in this film are so unrelatable, it ruins what could have been a great movie. I have no idea how this film ever received a positive rating. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member If not for the writing, acting, directing, cinematography, and editing, this could have been a good movie! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Very weird, very punk experimental film about aliens that feed off of orgasms. If you can get past the low budget nature of it, there's quite a bit to dissect in it. Dealing with themes of female repression and the links between sex and drugs. It's a gonzo movie you're not soon to forget. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/29/18 Full Review Read all reviews
