Leaburn O Pretty pointless montage of British daily life during early wartime. A propaganda film that doesn't really say anything but it meant to stir patriotism. Part of the Humphrey Jennings Fires Were Started DVD compilation that cost a small fortune. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/31/23 Full Review s r Watched this on TCM. Some good footage here, but not much else other than some old school narrative. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Listen to Britain is a friendly glimpse of civilian life in wartime Britain, packed with interesting and treasurable images. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member An interesting time capsule film. It is a documentary and it's only 20 minutes long but the fact that it captures Britain during WWII, is quite remarkable. I wouldn't be surprised if the filmmakers were inspired by the Russian film Man with the Movie Camera. Both are essentially silent and both capture a slice of life. Listen to Britain does have sound effects and music though. In some respects it's a per-cursor to films like Koyaanisqatsi and Baraka. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member another gr8 doc showing life during wartime Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member A depiction of life in Britain during the second World war and the privation that ordinary people had to deal with due to war. Jennings, a master of British propaganda of the second world war, pains another picture of patriotism and heroism of the British people which must have spurred the young men to fight for their country. The documentary is pretty effective and even very ambitious for its time as it turns down conventionalities that had formed around the documentary genre, particularly with its lack of voice of god narration.
