      Critics Consensus

This updated version of Little Women may hold some appeal for newcomers, but fans of the classic source material have far better adaptations to choose from.

Audience Member This movie is really inspiring to women all over. The movie has a very great cast of actresses and the story is easy to follow and great. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member A very long movie to tell a very lackluster story. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Enjoyable modern adaptation of Little Women. The only thing really wrong with it was the abysmal casting of Laurie. Still shaking my head over who thought that actor was right for that role. And the professor was too handsome. It hits all the other notes though. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a so stupid movie! I understand that there has to be a quota of bad movies and this is part of it! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member True to Alcott! Delightful in the modern world without ruining the morals, values, and sweetness of sisters! An absolute treat! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/11/23 Full Review Audience Member A poor modern adaptation of the classic. Jo, once the most interesting and likable of the Little Women, unfortunately in this version is absolutely insufferable; she spouts idiocy about capitalism, the patriarchy, and how the phrase "I'm starving" is insulting. I suppose she hasn't learned that capitalism essentially solved the starvation crisis across the world, and that the ideological opponent to capitalism caused mass starvations that wiped out some 100 million people in the 20th century. And let's not even get into how calling a theater panel of 'patriarchs' is appallingly pathetic and incorrect just because they happen to be men, let's get back to the movie: it's disappointing. Besides Jo being obnoxious, the modern interpretations of Meg, Beth, and Amy are fine. The switching between time frames is less successful though, as the pace and rhythm suffers and the editing is quite clumsy. I was looking for a light-hearted distraction, but this was well below that level. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Katie Walsh Tribune News Service This adaptation completely bungles the update. Nov 19, 2019 Full Review Sara Stewart New York Post Niederpruem gives it her very earnest all, but falls short both on continuity issues... and on making her gradually aging cast match up. Rated: 2/4 Sep 28, 2018 Full Review Nell Minow RogerEbert.com For devotees, the essence of the Little Women story remains, and, for newcomers, it is a sweet film that should inspire them to explore the book and the more traditional adaptations. Rated: 3/4 Sep 28, 2018 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com A quiet little gem of a film. Rated: 3.0/4.0 Sep 14, 2020 Full Review Sandie Angulo Chen Common Sense Media Kudos to Niederpruem for attempting a contemporary vision for the March sisters, but the present-day context erases and ignores too much of what was remarkable in Alcott's classic story. Rated: 2/5 Nov 19, 2019 Full Review Rachel Wagner rachelsreviews.net I wanted to champion a sweet locally filmed movie and tell you all to hunt it down. Sadly I cannot.
